Sinopse

ROME IS ON THE BRINK. THE NIGHTMARE HAS BEGUN.In the golden age of Rome, where legions march unchallenged and emperors believe themselves untouchable, an unspeakable horror emerges from the darkness. Entire colonies are wiped out overnight, their streets drenched in blood, their people torn apart by monstrous entities that defy nature itself. The Senate scoffs at the warnings, but General Maximus knows the truth—something ancient has awakened, and it will not stop until Rome itself falls. With his seven mighty warriors, a reluctant senator, and an army of battle-hardened soldiers, Maximus embarks on a campaign to confront the nightmare. But when the Gremors—inhuman creatures born from the abyss—ambush their forces, even Rome’s finest are left shaken. Then comes the Red Guardian, a being of godlike power, his crimson eyes burning with a hunger for destruction. As Maximus fights to hold the line, an enigmatic warrior known only as Nameless emerges from the shadows. He alone wields the knowledge of the enemy’s origins, and his lost name may be the key to saving the world. But as the battles rage and the corpses pile high, one question haunts them all:Can Rome’s greatest warriors defeat an enemy that should not exist? Or will the Empire’s golden age end in blood and fire?

Ranny Ransome is an idealistic young man, devoted to exuberant gymnastic exercises and to fighting “flabbiness” in his own life, body and soul. He loves the girlish and athletic Winny Dymond, and particularly loves participating with her in the Combined Maze, a choreographed, intricate, exhilarating group gymnastic ritual in which the young men and women of the Polytechnic Gymnasium demonstrate their skills. Unfortunately, Ranny falls under the spell of the seductive Violet, a sexual free spirit who wants nothing more than to live an untrammelled life on her own terms. When, to her astonishment and horror, Violet becomes pregnant, Ranny dutifully marries her against her will, entangling himself and her in a deadly new Combined Maze of social conventions intended to suppress and subdue the elemental passions that give color to Life. May Sinclair draws her readers in with a quiet, unobtrusive, Victorian prose that seems completely in tune with the conventional proprieties of her society, but goes on in the same seditious, unassuming tone to tell stories of sensuality, adultery, seduction, divorce, and betrayal, quietly protesting the smothering conventions of a society that feared passion in all its forms. Ranny’s mesmerizing struggle to maintain his fundamental decency while remaining true to his real love hangs in the balance to the last page. (summary by Expatriate)

A respectable young widow and mother of two children, the Marquise of O— finds herself inexplicably pregnant after being rescued by a Russian officer from the attentions of his soldiers during the storming of her town’s citadel. Convinced of her own innocence and wishing to vindicate her own integrity, the Marquise places an advert in the newspapers, appealing for the father to come forward and promising to marry him. But will this be enough to quench her family’s doubts and the derision of the society around her? Will this help her solve the mystery and urge the perpetrator to acknowledge paternity of the child?

One of the great classics of German literature, Heinrich von Kleist’s sexually charged novella is as edgy today as it was when it was first published in 1808, and is accompanied here by two other celebrated stories, ‘The Earthquake in Chile’ and ‘The Foundling’, showcasing the range of their author’s narrative abilities and his taste for the ambiguous and the paradoxical.

A BRAND NEW romantic comedy from TOP TEN BESTSELLER Phoebe MacLeod
Ruby may be young, free and single… but she’s absolutely not ready to mingle.
Ruby is happily sworn off men. There’s nothing she needs that can’t get from her friends, cat or, frankly, the wonders of modern technology. So when her flatmate tricks her into going on a singles cruise, she’s furious.
Thankfully, Ruby isn’t the only one onboard under false pretences. Cameron also had no idea what he was letting himself in for. So after Ruby and Cameron strike up conversation, they agree to platonically pair off, to protect each other from the flirtatious advances of the other guests – not to mention the matchmaking efforts of Barry, the enthusiastic host.
There’s just one problem. Cameron isn’t just in the same boat as Ruby – he’s also good looking, kind and fun. As they explore the picturesque towns of the Mediterranean, Ruby finds herself enjoying his company much more than she’d intended.
Can Ruby keep her heart safe, or will she be in too deep by the time the boat docks at its final destination?

‘Phoebe Macleod writes easy to ready, sweet but not shallow books. She has a lovely writing style and she’s the sort of author that I feel safe with, that I know I’m probably going to love pretty much anything she writes - one of the finish-a-book-and-buy-one-straight-after-on-kindle kinda vibes!‘ Goodreads review ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
‘I love when a book can make me LOL in real life the whole time. This was such a fun rom-com and a safe one for people who like books without all the spice.’ Goodreads review ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
‘This is a delightfully sweet and charming romantic comedy with a grumpy/sunshine trope (one of my favorites!)’ Goodreads review ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
‘It's a very light, feelgood read and certainly put a smile on my face.’ Goodreads review ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
‘A cute rom-com that focuses on friendship and different types of relationships, not just romance. I loved it, the characters are messy and complex as in real life.’ Goodreads review ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

"The Adventure of the Creeping Man" (1923) is one of 12 Sherlock Holmes short stories (56 total) by Arthur Conan Doyle in The Case-Book of Sherlock Holmes first published in Strand Magazine October 1921 - April 1927.
A man named Trevor Bennett comes to Holmes with a most unusual problem. He is Professor Presbury's personal secretary, and Mr. Bennett is also engaged to the professor's only daughter, Edith. Professor Presbury is himself engaged to a young lady, Alice Morphy, a colleague's daughter, although he himself is already 61 years of age. Their impending marriage does not seem to have caused a great scandal, so that is not Mr Bennett's problem. Nonetheless, the trouble seems to have begun at about the time of Professor Presbury's and Alice's engagement. First, the professor suddenly left home for a fortnight without telling anyone where he was going. He returned looking rather travel-worn, and it was only through a letter from a friend sent to Mr Bennett that the family learnt that Professor Presbury had been to Prague.
