Sinopsis

In "The Life of St. Patrick and His Place in History," J. B. Bury offers a scholarly exploration of Ireland's patron saint, meticulously tracing the historical and legendary threads that define his life. Bury employs a critical analysis of both ecclesiastical texts and contemporary sources, weaving a narrative that skillfully balances the spiritual with the historical. His prose reflects a clarity and precision typical of early 20th-century scholarship, emphasizing not only Patrick's missionary work but also the sociopolitical landscape of 5th-century Ireland that shaped his actions and legacy. J. B. Bury, known for his erudition and commitment to historical accuracy, was a prominent historian who contributed significantly to our understanding of antiquity and early medieval Europe. His academic background and keen interest in the intersection of history and myth undoubtedly informed his research on St. Patrick, as he sought to disentangle fact from legend in a narrative that has been steeped in folklore. Bury's findings have become foundational for later studies on the subject, showing his dedication to uncovering truth through rigorous scholarship. This book is an essential read for anyone interested in the historical roots of Irish identity and the evolution of religious thought in early medieval Europe. Bury'Äôs thorough investigation not only presents a biography of St. Patrick but also offers critical insights into the historical processes that shaped Christianity in Ireland. Ideal for historians, theologians, and lay readers alike, it serves as a cornerstone for understanding the cultural legacy of one of Christianity's most revered figures.

    FRANKLIN D. ROOSEVELT
Some say that a good president is determined by how they deal with the challenges that are thrown onto them by what is going on in other parts of the world. While others consider the greatness to come from how much initiative they take to solve the problems of their country, in spite and despite the state of the rest of the world. No matter how you measure greatness, there are some presidents that check both boxes, so to speak, for evaluation. The 32nd President, Franklin Delano Roosevelt is, arguably, one of these presidents.
Not only did he have to deal with his own health issues, but he also had to navigate a crumbling economy and a Second World War, among a multitude of other lesser-known challenges. This book traces a genealogical line through the life, career, presidency, and death of the 32nd president.
To begin, we take a look into the early life and childhood of Franklin D. Roosevelt; this is, of course, to see what, if any, notable events in his past were influential in his leadership role as president.
Following his early life, we then move to his early political career, and the steps taken that led him to earn the title of president of the United States. Next, there are a select few chapters that are focused on the impressive, and quite long, presidential reign of FDR. To round out this book, we touch on the death and legacy of this great man and what he has left behind for so many to follow in his footsteps. Interspaced between each of these chapters are quotes once uttered by this president of the United States that have lasted over time and been influential for many individuals.
Essentially, through reading this book, you will encounter the life of a great man who, while being forced into different hardships, both personal and political, was able to earn the respect of his countrymen and women and guide them through some of the darkest years of the 20th century.

"We have to fight for Down's syndrome. People see people with Down's syndrome as abnormal. Those who make fun of me, I ignore. Period. That's how I feel as a Down's sufferer. You have to say to yourself: 'I've got more chromosomes than them.'"
When Éléonore was born, the doctors considered her a "chromosomal aberration" and urged her parents not to get attached to her. With Down's syndrome and a heart defect, they gave her little chance of survival.
Twenty-eight years later, Éléonore is more alive than ever. Now an independent adult, she recounts her years of struggle with her parents to remain in a mainstream environment, and her refusal to be reduced to her illness. With humor, she shares her daily life, between her two-room apartment, her "job," her tumultuous love affairs and her passion for pop rock.
Éléonore is determined to change people's perception of Down's Syndrome.

I have created a memoir based narrative road map so that other young women can enjoy their feminity and gain a sense of inner strength while avoiding some of the painful roadblocks, quicksand, and dead ends that many falsely believe are a fact of life. I worked diligently to educate and rebuild myself and I have sifted through the years of workshops, manuscripts, therapists and outlets to highlight the few tools that I find to be the most efficient.
In Five Gallons to Empty I share with honesty and vulnerability, my journey from despair and pain to strength and inner fortitude. It is my deepest desire to inspire other young women and to help them avoid the painful, unnecessary, and avoidable trials to which so many fall victim. It primarily approaches the subjects of sex, drugs and confidence.
I have invested a tremendous amount of time, money, and emotion into this book. But in the end, it is not about me; it is about serving as a guide to young women. I believe they need one. I believe I am one. If you have taken note lately of their current role models, or if you have a daughter, you may agree that they are in dire need of a stronger voice. I am excited to see this audiobook release and to passionately market it so that young women everywhere can learn from my mistakes and live comfortably, powerfully, and productively.
