Sinopsis

Love and politics dissipate like vapor in this satirical and cynical look at Russian expatriates in a German spa town. Turgenev skewers the pretensions and empty rhetoric of the intellectual elite with sharp, observational wit. Amidst the social games, a man finds himself haunted by a past passion that threatens to consume his future. It is a sophisticated exploration of the illusory nature of both social progress and romantic devotion.

The Small House at Allington by Anthony Trollope is a poignant novel of love, social constraint, and quiet endurance in Victorian England. Set in the rural village of Allington, it follows the lives of two sisters, Lily and Bell Dale, who live with their widowed mother in a modest cottage. When two brothers, Adolphus and Bernard Crawley, rent nearby, romance blooms—especially between shy, beautiful Lily and the kind Adolphus. But Lily’s heart belongs to the charming yet unreliable Dr. John Crofts, creating emotional turmoil. Trollope masterfully explores unrequited love, familial duty, and the limited choices available to women. With empathy and subtle irony, the novel captures the heartbreak of hopes deferred and the dignity found in ordinary lives.

Series Placement: Timeless Terrors No. 78
    Description:
The Descendant is one of H. P. Lovecraft’s most haunting tales — a masterful exploration of ancestral dread, forbidden knowledge, and the encroachment of cosmic terror into the familiar world. The story follows Lord Northam, a reclusive heir to an ancient lineage, as he confronts the legacy of an ancestor whose dealings with unknowable powers have cursed the family for generations. Reality blurs with nightmare, and the familiar becomes a conduit for the unimaginable, creating a pervasive atmosphere of existential unease.
Told with Lovecraft’s trademark blending of psychological tension and cosmic horror, the story examines how knowledge of the incomprehensible can unravel the human mind, and how the past can exert an inexorable influence over the present. Its horror is subtle, relentless, and ineffable, relying on suggestion, mood, and the terror of what lies beyond perception rather than overt spectacle.
Narrated by Amazon-bestselling horror author Jonathan Dunne, this performance captures the creeping, oppressive dread that defines Lovecraft’s fiction, immersing listeners in the unnerving legacy of a family shadowed by forces beyond human understanding.
Part of Descendent by H. P. Lovecraft, The Descendant stands as a chilling reminder that some presences — like the weight of forbidden knowledge or the echoes of ancient ancestors — are inescapable and eternally unsettling.

Considered one of Lovecrafts best short stories, it is beleived to have been his first individually published book: with 250 copies made by Recluse Press in 1928.
