Sinopse

In Glimpses of Notes Ian Davidson describes in remarkable detail his education at Manchester Grammar School, beginning during the second half of World War Two. A native of Broughton-in-Furness, he brings his acute observational powers to bear on his upbringing in this great northern industrial city and his education at one of the world’s great schools. Starting in the Preparatory Department and leaving from the History Sixth Form, he produces wonderful sketches of his fellow pupils and teachers.

This book is about the journey of a sadhak, her transformation through the practice of Mahavatar Babaji's Kriya Yoga and close association to her Guru Yogiraj Siddhanath in the true Guru-Shishya parampara.A fun loving and cherished child, Jyoti grew up absorbing deliberations on the Bhagavad Gita, intoning Sanskrit mantras to perfection, performing yoga asanas and traditional pujas with ease, guided by her parents lovingly into a sattvic way of life. Growing up to be a restless young woman seeking nothing yet experimenting with everything, her curiosity took her to Crystal Healing to Reiki to Magnified Healing to Sweat Lodge and dancing around the fire in Shamanic rites. Little did she know that during a recorded guided meditation at a seminar she will see a vision of the satguru/master Yogiraj Siddhanath who will propel her on a fast-track evolutionary path of Mahavatar Babaji’s Kriya Yoga. In the book she takes you with ease and humour along this very personal journey unabashed and often brutally honest without guile, giving you glimpses of past lives across several civilisations, paranormal experiences in the present and manifold realms of existence, throughout which one link remains intact and steadfast - the link that binds the true disciple to their true guru. Today, as a senior disciple of Yogiraj Siddhanath she travels in India and worldwide sharing her learning with others, living and helping others to live joyously with grace, meeting all adversity with equanimity. The book is a reminder of the integrity disciples must have towards their master and how that helps their inner awakening. Includes Gurunath’s easy to practice 9 ancient yogic techniques.

    Thomas Hardy - Christmas Carollings

A tradition at Christmas was for the choir of local musicians and singers to assemble at the Hardys’ cottage, prior to setting out into the snow to do the rounds of local farms, homesteads, and manor house, in order to entertain their occupants. Hardy recreated this magical scene in Under the Greenwood Tree, published in 1872.
In the days when labouring classes worked long hours, and for the majority, material comforts were small, Christmas was a time (aside from the formalities of necessary religious observance,) for the exchanging of news, folklore, legend and jokes. For those fortunate enough to be invited to the Hardys’ cottage on Christmas Eve, there was the added bonus of food and drink to feed the body, and music – home-made of course – to lift the spirits and nourish the soul.
Hardy’s descriptions of such Christmases, as were celebrated by himself and his family, together with his colourful portrayals of characters – in particular the members of the ‘Mellstock Quire’ (Choir,) whom he described as his favourites - have delighted generations of his readers, and continue to do so.
This then, is the story of Thomas Hardy and of Christmas; of what that greatest of all Christian festivals meant to him, and of how his beliefs changed as the years progressed.

Kings Cross A Predators’ Paradise is a raw, honest account of Glen’s life. He was born into violence and addiction. His mother was addicted to drugs and alcohol and had mental health issues as well as a propensity to violence with her husband and children. The father was arrested and the parents did not reunite after his release. Shunted between his parents and care homes, the violence and cruelty inflicted on Glen left him broken and untrusting. His determination to survive is remarkable.
In his world where no-one could be trusted or confided in, Glen was raped by a friend of his parents at age nine and so he spent most of his energy hiding from the rapist and his parents’ rages. His childhood was lived walking on eggshells.
Glen became a runaway and ended up in institutional ‘care.’ Sent back to his father by authorities, Glen was rejected and abandoned in the streets of Kings Cross.
Here predators of all descriptions pounced on the vulnerable child, even while he lived in a refuge that he believed would be safe. His innocence and health were destroyed by people he trusted because they were in positions of power. Police corruption was rife in the 1980s and protection rackets enabled paedophiles, drug dealers and all sorts of criminals to thrive unchecked. Challenging the police gave them reason to set Glen up for any crime they chose and he was regularly arrested. None of the charges led to conviction.
Unable to deal with the pain of the rape and murder of his fifteen year old girlfriend Linda, Glen turned to heroin to dull his senses and he lived the harsh life of an addict with all its battles and repeated brushes with death, alone in back alleys of Kings Cross. This story clearly shows that there is nothing glamorous about heroin addiction.
Inevitably Glen found himself in prison. Here he learned to navigate the unforgiving system while withdrawing from heroin and coping with the traumas of flashbacks from his past

Desert Walker - My Lucky Life

My manuscript, Desert Walker, is a journey from my childhood through to my adult years. It is a true story of my many and varied exploits into the Australian Outback, interspersed with chapters of my personal life. I have walked remote deserts, boated and canoed mighty flooded rivers, conquered the outback in 4x4 wheel drive vehicles and a solar powered car, retraced the journeys of early explorerers and ridden camels across some of the harshest terrain in the world.
The Press at various times have labelled me a contemporary Australian explorer, one of the quintessential characters of Australia's inland, an Australian adventurer and an outback legend.
Some of my ventures were attempts to break records, others were undertaken to address personal problems, all were to reach higher goals and fulfill long held dreams, while two of my journeys raised considerable money for worthwhile causes.
I have always had a great interest in and empathy with the early explorers. Having personally retraced the footsteps of many of these courageous men, their ventures have been woven into some of my own adventure stories. Although generally brief, it is hoped that readers will be encouraged to delve more deeply into their lives and our past history as a whole, both Aboriginal and European.
In 1989 I was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) and The Australian Geographic magazine awarded me their Adventurer of the Year Gold Medallion.
Over the years via the Press, TV and radio, I have tried to encourage the young to get out and experience our great outback and our heritage, to challenge life in general and to be participants of life and adventure, not just spectators. For the not so young and the middle aged, I have endeavoured by example to show that age is not a barrier, it is merely an excuse and that dreams and aspirations can become a reality if one is prepared to give it a go.
