Sinossi

Prose Analysis explores how stylistic elements and grammatical structures shape written communication. The book argues that understanding these elements is crucial for both critical reading and effective writing. By examining syntax, diction, imagery, and rhetorical devices, readers gain insights into how authors manipulate language to influence perception and emotional response.

For example, the book dissects how sentence structure can establish rhythm and clarity, or how figurative language can evoke powerful emotions. The book progresses systematically, first defining key terms and then demonstrating how these elements interact to create specific tones. It analyzes how authors manipulate sentence structure and pacing to control reader engagement and provides a framework for independent textual analysis.

Through close reading techniques applied to diverse texts, readers learn to appreciate the artistry of skilled writers and improve their own ability to craft compelling prose. It emphasizes a hands-on approach to textual analysis, bridging the gap between scientific analysis and subjective interpretation.

We broke our new series on learning Filipino [Tagalog] down into different learning stages. Start with the "Lower Beginner" books followed by the "Beginner" and "Upper Beginner" books. Next, progress to the "Intermediate" series, then test and reinforce your knowledge with the "Conversations" series.
This audiobook is divided into units. While it provides different learning patterns and accommodates various needs, this audiobook focuses on helping you improve your ability to understand, speak, and memorise Filipino [Tagalog].
In Unit 1 you will hear Filipino [Tagalog] decoded with each syllable spoken very slowly and clearly with repetition. Immediately before each sentence is spoken, you will hear the translation, so you will always understand what is being said.
Unit 2 focuses solely on increasing your listening ability, which will improve your abilities to engage in dialogue with a native Filipino [Tagalog] speaker. This chapter requires you to listen very carefully to nuances in the language.
By Unit 3 you will already notice progress in your abilities to speak and understand Filipino [Tagalog]. The spoken translation is followed by two repetitions in Filipino [Tagalog] at a completely natural speed. While you are learning to process naturally spoken Filipino [Tagalog], Units 3 and 4 will help you memorise new vocabulary and full sentences.
In Unit 5 you can test yourself on how much you have learned. If you are having difficulties, we suggest you revisit the listening, speaking, or memorisation section of Units 1, 2 3 or 4, according to what you need more help with.

In Residual Governance, Gabrielle Hecht dives into the wastes of gold and uranium mining in South Africa to explore how communities, experts, and artists fight for infrastructural and environmental justice. Hecht outlines how mining in South Africa is a prime example of what she theorizes as residual governance—the governance of waste and discard, governance that is purposefully inefficient, and governance that treats people and places as waste and wastelands. She centers the voices of people who resist residual governance and the harms of toxic mining waste to highlight how mining's centrality to South African history reveals the links between race, capitalism, the state, and the environment. In this way, Hecht shows how the history of mining in South Africa and the resistance to residual governance and environmental degradation is a planetary story: the underlying logic of residual governance lies at the heart of contemporary global racial capitalism and is a major accelerant of the Anthropocene.

Richard I ruled as King of England from 1189 to 1199. He also governed as Duke of Normandy, Aquitaine, and Gascony, Lord of Cyprus, and Count of Poitiers, Anjou, Maine, and Nantes, and also being ruler of Brittany at different periods. He was the 3rd of 5 sons of King Henry II of England and Eleanor of Aquitaine, and he appeared not likely to prosper his dad as king, but all of his brothers had passed away before him, other than the youngest, John.Just because of his track record as a prominent army leader and fighter, Richard is called Richard Cur de Lion (Norman French: Le quor de lion) or Richard the Lionheart. Richard Oc-e-Non (Occitan for Yes and No) was a label given to him by troubadour Bertran de Born, probably simply because of his terseness.Richard had taken management of his own army by the age of 16, putting down disobediences in Poitou against his dad.Richard was a key Christian leader throughout the Third Crusade, commanding the project after Philip II of France's departure and winning substantial successes over Saladin, his Muslim equivalent, while signing a peace treaty and ending the fight without retaking Jerusalem. In this book, we will learn more about his life and his motivations.
