Sinopse

Howard Phillips Lovecraft (1890-1937) was an American writer, poet, literary critic and essayist, recognized as one of the greatest writers of horror literature together with Edgar Allan Poe and considered by many to be one of the precursors of Anglo-American science fiction. His works, a contamination between horror, soft science fiction, dark fantasy and low fantasy, have often been described, even by himself, with the term weird fiction (where weird stands for "strange"), being recognized among the main origins of the modern literary genre of the new weird.Lovecraft's short story The Alchimist, which we propose to our readers today, was written in 1908, when Lovecraft was 17, and first published in the November 1916 issue of the United Amateur. It was Lovecraft's first published work. The story is a first person account narrated by Count Antoine de C. Hundreds of years ago, Antoine's noble ancestor was responsible for the death of a dark wizard, Michel Mauvais. The wizard's son, Charles le Sorcier, swore revenge on not only him but all his descendants, cursing them to die upon reaching the age of 32.

UNTOUCHABLE: On a fine day, the dale could hold its own. White clouds scudded across a pale blue sky, casting shape-shifting shadows over the land, and just before dusk a translucent light bathed the fells in a fairy glow.

A REAL DAUGHTER is a horror novel that offers a frightening take on step-parenting and a disturbing testament to the unknown in all of us.
When her infant daughter Sarah unexpectedly dies, Claire moves to Los Angeles and reinvents herself as a landscape gardener. Meanwhile, Claire imagines Sarah alive, marking the child’s birthdays, Christmas, first day of school—almost as if Sarah never died.
Remarrying, Claire acquires a step-daughter about the same age Sarah would have been. But eight-year-old Mandy – part vamp, part jealous and troubled child – is nothing like Sarah, who still lives on in Claire's imagination.
As Claire lives two lives—one real, one imagined—the clash between the two daughters threatens to destroy her, releasing her demons and forcing her to choose between a new life and a haunted past.
“A morbidly eerie and artistically crafted psychological thriller” — Kirkus Reviews
"A REAL DAUGHTER is the real thing: a compelling, psychologically astute inquiry into the seismic shifts of one, uneasily blending California family haunted by the past."  — Cristina Garcia, National Book Award Finalist for Dreaming in Cuban
"The writing is luscious and chilling. Expect to be afraid--and then horrified." — Mary Morrissy, Lannan Fiction Award Winner

In this chapter, the narrative leaves personal journals behind and shifts into a gripping newspaper account — a dramatic report of a violent storm at sea and the arrival of a ghostly ship. The Russian vessel Demeter crashes onto the Whitby shore with no crew left aboard, its captain found dead and lashed to the wheel. A huge dog-like creature leaps from the wreck and disappears into the night, leaving only fear and speculation behind.
Through eyewitness testimony and sensational reporting, we witness the creeping intrusion of the supernatural into everyday Victorian life. Mina and Lucy remain unaware of the dark presence now stalking their peaceful seaside town, while the shadow of Dracula spreads farther into England with every passing moment.
This is Chapter 7 of Bram Stoker’s Dracula, narrated by Amazon bestselling horror author Jonathan Dunne — part of a complete chapter-by-chapter audiobook series that brings the Gothic classic to life with haunting atmosphere, rich characterization, and cinematic storytelling.
Experience the mystery of the doomed ship, the storm-lashed terror, and the sinister arrival that marks the beginning of England’s nightmare.
