Summary

Good Press presents the Civil War Memories Series. This meticulous selection of the firsthand accounts, memoirs and diaries is specially comprised for Civil War enthusiasts and all people curious about the personal accounts and true life stories of the unknown soldiers, the well known commanders, politicians, nurses and civilians amidst the war. "Memoirs of the Confederate War for Independence" is one of the best accounts of the American Civil War written from the Confederate point of view. The book was written by Heros Von Borcke, a Prussian cavalry officer, who served in service in the cavalry of the army of Northern Virginia. He was a direct witness and a participant of many great battles of the American Civil War (Seven Pines, the Seven Days, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville and Brandy Station). Borcke's participation in the war ended in the early part of the Gettysburg campaign, when he was wounded.

Musings from a “one-man flash mob” (Toronto Star)
Comedian Shawn Hitchins explores his irreverent nature in this debut collection of essays. Hitchins doesn’t shy away from his failures or celebrate his mild successes—he sacrifices them for an audience’s amusement. He roasts his younger self, the effeminate ginger-haired kid with a competitive streak. The ups and downs of being a sperm donor to a lesbian couple. Then the fiery redhead professes his love for actress Shelley Long, declares his hatred of musical theatre, and recounts a summer spent in Provincetown working as a drag queen.
Nothing is sacred. His first major break-up, how his mother plotted the murder of the family cat, his difficult relationship with his father, becoming an unintentional spokesperson for all redheads, and ̶m̶a̶n̶d̶y̶ ̶m̶o̶o̶r̶e̶ many more.
Blunt, awkward, emotional, ribald, this anthology of humiliation culminates in a greater understanding of love, work, and family. Like the final scene in a Murder She Wrote episode, A Brief History of Oversharing promises everyone the a-ha! moment Oprah tells us to experience. Paired with bourbon, Scottish wool, and Humpty Dumpty Party Mix, this journey is best heard through a lens of schadenfreude.

William Faulkner was undoubtedly one of the greatest American writers. Now, you can take Thomas Merton as your personal guide in discovering the literary and spiritual genius of Faulkner’s works.
Awarded both the Nobel and Pulitzer Prizes, William Cuthbert Faulkner (1897–1962) was a multi-talented writer who wrote such beloved classics as The Sound and the Fury and As I Lay Dying. In this series, you will join renowned mystic and writer Thomas Merton on an extraordinary course on Faulkner and classicism in literature. An English professor before becoming a monk, Merton continued to teach literature courses to the monks at the Abbey of Gethsemani. These lectures were originally recorded by Merton in the 1960s and are remastered to enhance your listening experience.
First, you will look at the concept of the classical in literature by exploring the poetry of John Milton and T.S. Eliot before looking specifically at Faulkner’s works. Merton demonstrates that Faulkner is a mythological rather than sociological writer; he uses the particular setting of the American South to tell stories of universal significance. His works embody the great classic truths of literature: love, honor, pride, compassion, and sacrifice.
Under Merton’s guidance, you will see how Faulkner was a sapiential, or visionary, writer. Merton will also guide you through the deeper spiritual undercurrent of Faulkner’s writings, which illustrate the biblical themes of redemption, the fall, and the resurrection.
Join Thomas Merton today with this brilliant course on Faulkner.
This course is part of the Learn25 collection.

A Canadian sportswriter profiles twelve legendary NHL goaltenders in a book that “reveals the changing face of professional hockey in the last half century” (Publishers Weekly).   Some NHL goalies are great and others are intriguing characters, but a select few are legends because they're both. Such is the case with the dozen players featured here. In Between the Pipes, veteran hocky writer Randi Druzin profiles these athletes, revealing the traits that make each one unique.   Gump Worsley defied the laws of biomechanics by being nimble despite having a cabbage-shaped body. He was also one of the funniest men ever to start in goal. Glenn Hall used to wrestle with a trainer in the dressing room before games and Jacques Plante refused to stay at a particular Toronto hotel. Despite their quirks, these twelve goalies are among the best the game has ever seen. With wit and verve, Druzin paints unforgettable portraits of these masked mavericks.

Lines of Listening A Memoir of Child Abuse and Marital Betrayal traces an ancestral passage from their German homeland through the family's multi-generational struggle to survive abuse and betrayal. Relating personal accounts of familial interactions verifies and endeavors to explain evil and horrific episodes committed by family members, who had vowed to love and protect each other. This book was written to help explain why such events occur and to soften the pain for others when they may encounter such events. Lines of Listening is a collection of life memories and a conversation about the events that shape the destiny of people when abuse and neglect occur. These conversations are often not enjoyable but always necessary. However, I can't deny that the conversations, memories, and situations haven't shaped my life as I struggle to relate them honestly. My mother's gift of stubbornness and resilience helps me heal the scars and get on with the business of life.
