Sinopse

Herbert George Wells (1866-1946) was one of the most popular British writers of all time. Prolific in many genres, he wrote more than fifty novels and dozens of short stories. His non-fiction output included works of social commentary, politics, history, popular science, satire and biography, but is now best remembered for his Science Fiction novels and has been called the “Father of Science Fiction”. He was nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature four times.A great initiate and scholar of Esotericism and Occultism, and a member of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, in addition to his fame as a writer, Wells was prominent in his lifetime as a forward-looking, even prophetic social critic who devoted his literary talents to the development of a progressive vision on a global scale. A futurist, he wrote a number of utopian works and foresaw the advent of aircraft, tanks, space travel, nuclear weapons and satellite television. His Science Fiction imagined time travel, alien invasion, invisibility, and biological engineering. The Crystal Egg is a science fiction short story written by Herbert George Wells in 1897. The story tells of a shop owner, named Mr. Cave, who finds a strange crystal egg that serves as a window into the planet Mars.

I skipped around a small stack of pylons while my deputy cousin unloaded more of the same from the back of the sheriff's pickup. I beamed at Robert Carlisle, not because I adored him. Quite the opposite. I couldn't stand the wretched little piece of loathing with his seventies-esque bush of a black mustache or his pompous superiority.

No, I grinned and waved out of sheer delight at his less than enthusiastic expression as he grunted his way through hefting a rather heavy looking barricade onto the sidewalk.

"Exercise is good for you," I said as I kept going without offering to help.

"Your ass could use some lately, Fanny," he shot after me.

He did not just call me fat and Fanny in the same sentence.

The Time of Cold by Mary Carlson - Queer creatures! They fled the life-giving sun and hid where even tin froze solid!
Curt felt the airship going out of control as he passed over a rock spattered stretch of sand. Automatically he looked for a smooth place to land and steered the bucking ship for it. The jolt of the landing triggered the ejector seat and in a second he was hurtling through the air away from the explosion of the damaged vehicle. Just before he blacked out, he thought—almost calmly—"a good hundred and fifty miles from the colony."
When he regained consciousness, night was passing and the first of the three suns was peeking over the horizon. Curt lay still for a while, afraid to find out what might be wrong with him. And the rescue ship could take anything from an hour to a week to find him. He moved his head to discover if there might be anything left of his ship; he saw nothing but pieces.
"Well," he said aloud, "so much for that." He reached back gingerly and undid the seat straps. Carefully, he sat up and began to ease his weight onto his feet. A sharp twinge of pain in his knee dropped him back to a sitting position. He probed at the knee but found no broken bones.
"Well," he said again, quietly. The colony leaders had had very little to offer in the way of survival. Rule number 1: Mark the crash site and your direction of travel. Number 2: Get into shade before the combined heat of the three suns boils your blood. Number 3: Carry your pistol for protection against liquid scorpions, and always save the last pellet for yourself.

    The Enchanter and Chimera (poem)
In knightly days of yore did the Enchanter create a chimera creature,
A hybrid of lion and bird to hunt a giant Roc bird,
A giant bird of prey of the lands of Arabia years of old,
He admired the Roc as it gracefully flew through the clouds from the back of his Chimera
He wore a suit of shining Armour, feathers flew from his steed's giant wings,
He drew his enchanted sword and the flying lion flew in for the kill,
He stabbed the snapping giant bird and it fell from the sky,
    Landing in a great thud.
