Sinopse

In "Blindness," Henry Green masterfully explores the precarious boundaries of perception and reality through the lens of a quiet, contemplative narrative. Set in the tumultuous aftermath of World War II, the novel delves into the lives of characters grappling with disillusionment and the emotional scars of conflict. Green's distinctive style—characterized by fluid storytelling and an intricate interplay of dialogue—invites readers to engage deeply with the characters' internal struggles, illuminating the theme of disconnection that permeates modern existence and reflects the broader societal changes of the time. Henry Green, an influential British novelist, cultivated his literary voice during a period of significant upheaval in both society and literature. His experiences as a factory manager during the industrial age provided him with keen insights into the human condition, shaping his understanding of class and social dynamics. Green was part of the Bloomsbury Group and was known for his unconventional narrative techniques, which likely influenced his portrayal of perception in "Blindness." His unique perspective on the complexities of life during the post-war era enriches the thematic depth of this thought-provoking work. "Blindness" is a crucial read for those interested in the exploration of psychological depth and social commentary. Green's nuanced prose and profound insights into the nature of perception offer readers a chance to reflect on the ways in which we navigate our realities. This novel is not merely a story but an invitation to ponder the complexities of human experience, making it a timeless piece that resonates with contemporary audiences.

Before Jurassic Park, there was a jungle where monsters still ruled the earth.
Young, ambitious journalist Edward Malone is desperate to prove his worth to the woman he loves. In search of a heroic quest, he aligns himself with the brilliant but notoriously explosive Professor George E. Challenger, a man who claims to have discovered an impossible secret hidden deep within the treacherous Amazonian rainforest. Along with a skeptical rival scientist and a battle-hardened big game hunter, Malone plunges into the dark heart of South America. What they discover atop an isolated, unscalable volcanic plateau is a terrifying tear in the fabric of time itself—a forgotten realm where flesh-eating dinosaurs and prehistoric savages wage a perpetual war for survival.
Why you will love this: If you are captivated by classic Adventure Fiction, gripping wilderness survival themes, and heart-pounding encounters with extinct beasts, this foundational sci-fi action tale will keep you on the edge of your seat. It perfectly blends meticulous scientific exploration with white-knuckle suspense, establishing the very tropes of the dinosaur-exploration genre we revere today.
Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (1859–1930) is celebrated globally as the creator of Sherlock Holmes, but his immense literary talent spanned historical fiction, science fiction, and fantasy. With The Lost World, he birthed the lost world genre, leaving an indelible mark on speculative fiction that continues to inspire modern blockbusters.

Frank Richard Stockton was born in Philadelphia on 5th April 1834.
His father, a Methodist minister, discouraged Stockton’s literary career from an early age. Feeling unable to go against those wishes it was for many years that Stockton’s income was maintained as a wood engraver.
His first work was published in 1867 and his first collection only appeared in 1870. Despite this late arrival Stockton’s innovative and often far-fetched stories, with a gentle ‘poking fun’ humour were very popular. Like his contemporary Mark Twain he avoided the scolding, hectoring and moral tones of many other authors and instead gently teased and cajoled his reader to open their eyes to the ills, the greed and the ambitions of the world around them. His sci-fi stories in particular were far-seeing and inventive including a tale of negative gravity and a bloodless Anglo-US war won by technological feats.
Perhaps his most enduring tale though is ‘The Lady, or the Tiger?’ from 1882. A condemned man is given a choice of being eaten alive or marrying his princess lover. But he has to choose which door each is behind.
Frank R Stockton died in Washington, DC, on 20th April 1902, of a cerebral haemorrhage. He is buried at The Woodlands in Philadelphia.

Howard Phillips Lovecraft is among the greatest American masters of fantasy and the supernatural.
Born in 1890, a native of Providence, Rhode Island, his health was uncertain from childhood and he led a sheltered early life. His semi-invalidism enabled him to read omnivorously, and as a shy imaginative child he began to invent what would in his adult life become a whole macabre fantastic world of his own, peopled by creatures out of his own weird imagination.
As an adult he was retiring, almost a recluse. Tall, thin and pale, but with bright alert eyes, he was much given to wandering his native city in the dark hours of the night, and he became a devoted student of its antiquities.
Although he began to write early he had nothing published until he was in his twenties. He set many of his stories around the imaginary town of Arkham, and invented an entire mythology of his own, its core being the demoniac cult of Cthulhu, based on the lore or legend that the world was at one time inhabited by another race who, in practising black magic, lost their foothold or were expelled, yet live on outside, ever ready to take possession of this earth again.
Since his early death in 1937 his stories have continued to attract attention and praise from an ever-growing audience.

G K Chesterton (29 May 1874 – 14 June 1936) was a poet, novelist, playwright, literary commentator, editor, biographer, journalist, orator and theologian. He was often dubbed as the “prince of paradox” for his light whimsical style that often addressed serious issues such as politics and religion. The latter was as a member and defender of the Christian faith and the former was shaped by a distrust of concentrated wealth and power. He advocated Distributionism and said that every man should be allowed to own "three acres and a cow." These political views have spread round the world, crediting Chesterton as the father of the “small is beautiful” movement. It is also said to have influenced Gandhi in seeking a genuine nationalism for India rather than imitating the British state.
Chesterton was remarkably prolific but perhaps his most famous creation is Father Brown. Within this character Chesterton’s clever writing and profound ideas reveal truths, often with humour as the detective priest pursues the answers to his cases.
