"Allan Quatermain" is an 1887 novel by H. Rider Haggard, featuring his recurring character Allan Quatermain. This adventure novel serves as the sequel to Haggard's earlier work, "King Solomon's Mines". Let's delve into the plot of this captivating tale: Background: Haggard wrote "Allan Quatermain" during his summer holiday in 1885, immediately after completing "King Solomon's Mines". The novel was first serialized in Longman's Magazine before being published as a complete work. Plot Summary: At the beginning of the book, Allan Quatermain mourns the loss of his only son and longs to return to the wilderness. He persuades his friends—Sir Henry Curtis, Captain John Good, and the Zulu chief Umslopogaas—to accompany him on an expedition. Their journey takes them from the east coast of Africa into the territory of the Maasai. While staying with a Scottish missionary named Mr. Mackenzie, they encounter a group of Maasai who kidnap Mr. Mackenzie's daughter. The Maasai demand a life as ransom, but instead, the group launches a surprise attack, defeating the Maasai. The adventurers then travel by canoe along an underground river to a sacred lake in the kingdom of Zu-Vendis. In Zu-Vendis, they encounter a warlike race of white-skinned people ruled by two sisters, Nyleptha and Sorais. Both sisters fall in love with Sir Henry Curtis, leading to a civil war. After a victorious battle, Queen Nyleptha becomes the ruler, while Quatermain dies from a wound sustained in the fight. Reception: "Allan Quatermain" is considered one of Haggard's most successful works. It exemplifies the lost-race novel genre, setting the stage for many subsequent works in this subgenre. In this thrilling adventure, Allan Quatermain's courage and loyalty are put to the test as he navigates treacherous lands and encounters powerful queens. "

People often chose a dog that resembles themselves, consciously or unconsciously. Even scientific experiments have proved it. For example, you rarely find a Hell's Angel with a bichon frisé, or a sweet little old lady with a bulldog. A gentle quiet academic wouldn't normally chose a boisterous border collie, nor would an energetic teenager chose a basset hound.

Our beloved dogs are rather like our choice of car or the clothes we wear. The science writer David Robson says, 'The canine mini-me reveals a narcissistic tendency in us all.'

In these humorous, colourful illustrations of doppelgänger dogs, artist John Holder has depicted a superb, visually entertaining collection of dogs and their owners in all their lookalike glory. A treat for dog owners everywhere.

Xu Jiaojiao, the eldest daughter of the Xu family, had been sent to the countryside years ago to recover from an illness. Now, she returned to fulfill a long-standing family contract. However, on the eve of her wedding, the groom unexpectedly left to chase after his first love overseas.
The room buzzed with whispers as everyone gathered, ready to witness the unfolding drama.
“Oh dear,” Xu Jiaojiao muttered under her breath. Then, without hesitation, she lifted the hem of her pristine white wedding dress, strode forward, and tugged on the sleeve of a man standing nearby. “Mr. Qi, will you marry me?” she asked softly, her voice calm and steady.
The crowd was stunned into silence. Had she lost her mind?
Qi Shenbai, the man in question, was a mysterious and immensely successful businessman with over a decade of dominance in his industry. His enigmatic demeanor and apparent disinterest in women made him the subject of constant speculation. Though countless beautiful women vied for his attention, none had ever succeeded in capturing his heart.
Everyone held their breath, waiting for Qi Shenbai to dismiss her outright and for Xu Jiaojiao to become a laughingstock. Yet, to their astonishment, Qi Shenbai agreed!
The room erupted into disbelief. Did he really say yes? There had to be some hidden agenda behind this shocking turn of events! They waited eagerly for the inevitable fallout—for the moment when this hastily arranged marriage would crumble into a public spectacle.
But to their dismay, no such moment came. Instead, the headlines were filled with stories of Qi Shenbai showering his wife with affection and spoiling her beyond belief.
    The doubters were left speechless.
Since when was marrying a successful businessman as simple as asking, “Will you marry me?”
