Sinopsis

"Textbook History" explores the surprising influence of textbooks, arguing they are more than just educational resources; they are cultural artifacts that shape our understanding of the world. The book uncovers how textbooks have evolved from simple hornbooks to complex multimedia resources, reflecting changes in educational philosophies and technology. It also highlights how textbooks have been used to promote specific national identities and reinforce social hierarchies, revealing them as sites of ideological contestation. The book examines the construction of knowledge within textbooks across history, science, and literature, revealing implicit biases and assumptions. By tracing the historical development of textbooks, the book reveals the shifting pedagogical approaches that have reshaped textbook design and content. It connects to fields like media studies and cultural studies, examining how knowledge is produced, circulated, and consumed through educational resources. Structured in three parts, the book progresses from the textbook's origins to its impact on students and society. It addresses the ongoing debate about textbooks in the digital age, considering their adaptation and the benefits of digital formats. This unique approach offers valuable insights for educators, policymakers, and anyone interested in the history of education and the dynamics of learning.

The EU two-state policy concerning the Palestinian-Israeli conflict is failing, despite a half-century of strenuous EU efforts expending tens of billions of euros to implement it. The reality of policy failure is discomforting but must be acknowledged.Failure should provoke reflection: reasons need to be understood to avoid repeated mistakes and to construct a more successful policy for the future. The reasons for failure of the EU Two State Policy are serious but surprisingly obvious. At the base of the EU two-state policy lie 3 false assumptions of wishful thinking: the Palestinian-Israeli conflict is territorial and not existential; East Jerusalem and the West Bank legally belong to the Palestinians; and the establishment of a democratic Palestinian state at peace beside Israel is realistic and feasible. This report challenges these assumptions and makes recommendations for a new approach to enabling Palestinian autonomy, Israeli security and regional stability.Palestinian rights to self-determination must be respected, but they may not be allowed to conflict with the fair and non-discriminatory application of international law, nor be allowed to undermine Israeli sovereignty or regional stability. Peace will never be achieved through agendas aimed at destruction. The EU should focus on ensuring rejection of extremism and mutual acceptance; the fair and equal application of international law to all actors in the region; and strengthening institutions of government based on the rule of law. The authors of this report seek to stimulate vigorous debate on the EU approach to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and a better way forward for Europes engagement in the Middle East.

Have you also often tried to change your life and found that it is not so easy? Maybe it was trying to lose weight, personal development, sports, finances or self-employment, etc. Do you remember the attempts you failed at? When you gave in to your inner pig for the sake of peace, or when you were no longer able or willing to withstand the pressure and you felt put on the defensive? Then you should definitely take a look at the Japanese change philosophy "Kaizen". With this philosophy you will learn how to approach your success and your goals with small steps but with high efficiency and how to reach your goals after all. Would you like to revive dreams and goals that have long since been filed away and to come closer step by step, without much effort, until the realization is inevitable? Wouldn't life immediately become much more meaningful again? Then turn to this book with its Japanese philosophy, which found its origin in large business groups and has continued its successful path into personal development. Kaizen means to approach improvements step by step instead of trying to bring about radical changes. The goal of the method is to continuously bring about minimal change and thus come inevitably closer to the goal.
