New translation of The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka.Poor Gregor Samsa! This guy wakes up one morning to discover that he's become a "monstrous vermin". The first pages of The Metamorphosis where Gregor tries to communicate through the bedroom door with his family, who think he's merely being lazy, is vintage screwball comedy. Indeed, scholars and readers alike have delighted in Kafka's gallows humor and matter-of-fact handling of the absurd and the terrifying. But it is one of the most enigmatic stories of all time, with an opening sentence that's unparalleled in all of literature.

Originally published in 1872, "The Possessed" (also known as "The Devils" or "Demons") is a political novel by the renowned Russian writer Fyodor Dostoyevsky. The story focuses on a group of revolutionaries plotting an uprising in a provincial Russian town, exploring their motives, philosophies, and interpersonal dynamics. It delves deep into the psychology of its characters, offering a scathing critique of radical ideologies and the intellectuals who espoused them during Dostoyevsky's time. As with much of his work, the narrative is a profound exploration of good and evil, freedom and enslavement, and the nature of power.

"The Old Man and the Sea" is one of Ernest Hemingway's most enduring works, earning him the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1953 and contributing to his Nobel Prize in Literature in 1954. The novella tells the tale of Santiago, an old Cuban fisherman who has not caught a fish for 84 days. In his relentless pursuit of a great marlin, Santiago embarks on a solitary journey that becomes as much about his internal struggle and resilience as it is about the physical battle with the fish. The narrative delves into themes of man versus nature, pride, aging, and the eternal struggle for personal triumph against odds.

Five escaped prisoners. One raging hurricane. An uncharted wilderness where survival demands absolute genius.
When a daring balloon escape from a besieged Civil War stronghold goes terribly wrong, an engineer, a reporter, a sailor, a young boy, and a devoted servant are swept away by a monumental tempest. Thrown onto the desolate, rocky shores of an unknown land in the vast Pacific Ocean, they are stripped of every tool, weapon, and modern convenience.
Separated from their brilliant leader, Captain Cyrus Harding, the surviving castaways must brave the harsh elements, scavenge for sustenance, and build shelter from the very stones of the earth. But as the mysteries of this barren coast deepen, they must ask themselves: Is this a mere island, or the edge of an unexplored continent? And more importantly, can they conquer the untamed wilderness before it conquers them?
The Mysterious Island is a breathtaking tale of survival, brotherhood, and human ingenuity that will leave listeners on the edge of their seats.
