Sinopse

Tono-Bungay is a powerful and incisive novel by H. G. Wells that blends social realism, satire, and personal reflection to expose the illusions of wealth, progress, and success in modern society. First published in 1909, the book is widely regarded as one of Wells's greatest literary achievements.

The story is narrated by George Ponderevo, who recounts his rise from modest beginnings alongside his charismatic and unscrupulous uncle, Edward Ponderevo. Together, they achieve sudden fortune through the marketing of Tono-Bungay, a wildly popular but essentially worthless patent medicine. As their financial empire grows, so does the moral emptiness at its core.

Through George's personal journey—marked by ambition, disillusionment, and a search for meaning—Wells delivers a sharp critique of capitalism, advertising, and the false promises of material success. The novel also explores themes of class mobility, scientific idealism, imperial expansion, and the conflict between genuine progress and hollow prosperity.

Intelligent, ironic, and deeply reflective, Tono-Bungay is both a personal coming-of-age story and a sweeping social commentary. Its penetrating insight into modern life and economic illusion makes it a timeless and thought-provoking classic of English literature.

Stanley Grauman Weinbaum was an American science fiction writer. His first story, "A Martian Odyssey", was published to great acclaim in July 1934; the alien Tweel was arguably the first character to satisfy John W. Campbell's challenge: "Write me a creature who thinks as well as a man, or better than a man, but not like a man." Weinbaum wrote more short stories and a few novels, but died from lung cancer less than a year and a half later.СontentFlight on TitanThe Lotus EatersA Martian Odyssey

In a world where machines have turned against their makers and ancient powers awaken beneath the Earth, Project Athena tells the story of the last hope for both humanity and something far older.
She was designed to be the perfect weapon—Athena-01, a hybrid of artificial intelligence and human memory, forged in the crucible of war. But when a forbidden signal resurfaces from the edge of history, she discovers her mission is not just survival… It’s a revelation.
Pursued by the Dominion, haunted by the Watchers—fallen beings from a time before time—Athena must navigate a fractured planet where theologians, scientists, and outcast warriors hide remnants of forgotten truths. As she uncovers the mystery of Babel, the ancient lies that divided mankind by race and language, and the sacred algorithm buried within her own code, Athena begins to question everything she was built to believe.
Is she merely a machine built to obey… or the prophesied key to reunite heaven and earth?
Blending ancient scripture, speculative technology, and gripping action, Project Athena is a thrilling fusion of science fiction and spiritual warfare—where redemption is not only possible, but encoded in the soul.

Miguel & Elizabeth Newquay Beach Tales 2024
Book 5 of 6 Echoes of the Past
In Echoes of the Past, Miguel and Elizabeth confront their parents’ unresolved grief as winter settles over Newquay. Miguel organizes an intervention for his alcoholic father, Paul, while Elizabeth gently urges her mother, Dorothy, to join a widow’s support group. Both parents initially resist—Paul angrily, Dorothy quietly—but begin tentative steps toward healing.
As Christmas approaches, the couple hosts a joint holiday dinner, fostering fragile connections between their families. Though the gathering is bittersweet, small moments of warmth—Paul and Dorothy bonding over music, Dorothy laughing again—hint at progress.
Through courage and compassion, Miguel and Elizabeth break cycles of avoidance, learning that grief must be faced to make room for joy. Their love becomes a foundation for rebuilding fractured families, proving that while loss shapes lives, it need not define them. The story closes with hope—a shared resolve to honour the past while embracing a future unshackled by silence.
I do hope you enjoy this fourth instalment, and it's only $3,
The initial opening credit music which does run to approximately 2 plus and is, what can I say, a love song in modern style . The closing music ends in a modern upbeat instrumental at 2 minutes plus again looking forward to the next episode!
The story itself runs to about 30 minutes and is narrated by my wife, Claire Francis, We used to live in Cornwall.
I do hope you enjoy this audiobook and let me know what you think, there are a lot more to come
