Sinopsis

Guy Ware's new novel charts a course from the 1930s onwards through the fragmentary memories of the 85 year-old Charlie, whose identical twin brother JJ has recently died. Sons of a working-class Communist family, growing up in the radical Peckham Experiment and orphaned by the Blitz, the twins emerge from the war keen to build the New Jerusalem.
In 1968, JJ's ideals are rocked by the fatal collapse of a tower block his council and Charlie's development company have built. When the entire estate is demolished in 1986 JJ retires, apparently defeated. Now he is dead and Charlie, preparing for the funeral, relives their history, their family and their politics. It's a story of how we got to where we are today told in a voice – opinionated, witty, garrulous, indignant, guilty, deluded and, as the night wears on, increasingly drunken – that sucks us in to both the idealism and the corruption it depicts, leaving us wondering just where we stand.

I never meant to derail a man like Cole Ford. One lost passport and a spiraling travel disaster later, I’m stranded in Cinque Terre—overwhelmed and completely out of my depth. Then Cole shows up: calm, controlled, infuriatingly handsome. He’s order wrapped in a perfectly pressed shirt, and somehow the only person who makes me feel steady in the middle of my own chaos. I start wanting what I shouldn’t—him. And wanting Cole feels dangerous in a way I can’t even explain.

I don’t do chaos. And Juliette Porter is chaos with a heartbeat. I live by structure, logic, and The Bachelor Pact—especially the final rule: never fall in love. Flying to Italy to retrieve Juliette was supposed to be simple. But she slips past every defense I’ve built, makes me crave the unpredictable, and tempts me to break the vow I swore I’d never touch.
By the time we return to the familiarity of Cedar Falls, one truth is unavoidable: to keep her, I’ll have to shatter my last unbroken rule—and finally risk my heart.

In Gaze Long into the Abyss, acclaimed Marvel Studios screenwriter Dalan Musson plunges us into a vivid but desolate world: An apocalypse has snatched away most of humanity; the ragged, remaining few are picking up the pieces. Was it the Rapture as revealed to St. John, or some other calamity of biblical proportions?
The Kid hears his calling: to find the source of the evil, and put an end to it. He seeks out the help of the Old Man—who, in his own time, traveled to the ends of the Earth and back, in his own vain quest to save the world. Together, they set off across a grim landscape populated by survivors turned brigands, bandits, and exhausted warring factions—all of them looking for answers that may have vanished when their loved ones did.
Written in spare, haunting prose that recalls Cormac McCarthy, Gaze Long into the Abyss is a classic tale of redemption and damnation, told by one of the foremost action-adventure craftsmen at work today.
