Summary

'Scales and Arpeggios' has been painstakingly updated and revised in order to build on the '2 Position Guitar Scale System: An Introduction' Book (also available) by expanding the reach of the 2 Position System to include how to change between scales, open position scales, how to stack the positions to form larger ones, and a new section which incorporates arpeggios into the system.

The premise of this system has always been to focus on the musical aspect of scales, and now arpeggios, instead of the endless memorization of patterns and permutations you get with other systems such the CAGED and 3NPS ones, which means there’s far too much time wasted before they become useful. Don’t get me wrong, this is not a book of shortcuts. You’ll still have to put the work in to get good results, but know that we’ve reduced that amount of ‘work’, or ‘woodshedding’ by about 80%. What you’ll get from this system is a profound insight into how the guitar, in standard tuning, can be understood to effortlessly learn the tools for confident improvisation: scales and arpeggios.

Without words, apps would be an unusable jumble of shapes and icons, while voice interfaces and chatbots wouldn't even exist. Words make software human-centered, and require just as much thought as the branding and code. This book will show you how to give your users clarity, test your words, and collaborate with your team. You'll see that writing is designing.

The final book of the Bible, known both as The Book of Revelation and The Apocalypse of John, is a prophesy of the events that will occur at the end of time. During the Middle Ages, in a society which held a deep belief in God and was mainly ruled by religious authorities, this apocalyptic theme recurs in art, through various media, including tapestries, illuminations, sculpture, and painting. This book pools the most famous pieces of art inspired by this theme, such as the Apocalypse drapery from Angers Cathedral, the carved tympanum of the Autun Cathedral, and the fresco in Albi Cathedral. The theme of the Apocalypse was a means to impress minds, whilst also allowing artists to develop their imaginations; its symbolic content allowing for many different interpretations.

His job took him to war zones, scenes of natural disaster and big international sporting events - as well as on undercover operations involving child trafficking, football hooliganism and narcotics. Using his extensive military experience - he served with the British forces in both the Falklands War in 1982 and the Balkans conflict in Bosnia and Herzegovina - he has been the right-hand man, confidant and enforcer to many adventurous celebrities, including Sir Ranulph Fiennes, Gary Lineker, John Simpson and Matthew Pinsent. In Bodyguard Summers talks extensively about these relationships, demonstrating how his knowledge and experience have been vital in keeping BBC casualties to a minimum. The great violinist Viktoria Mullova's story is one of striking contrasts and huge challenges. As a young musician she was a bright star in the Soviet musical firmament, but she stunned the world when she escaped the KGB and fled to the West, leaving behind her family, friends and all she knew. And in her flight from Finland, Viktoria also abandoned on her hotel bed the priceless Stradivarius she'd played during her triumph at the International Tchaikovsky Competition. From Russia to Love recounts the journey of a remarkable woman. Armed only with her violin bow and her exceptional talent, Viktoria went on to conquer the West. As her new life unfolded, first in America and then in Europe, Viktoria met fellow exiles Nureyev and Rostropovich, fell in love with conductor Claudio Abbado and learned to throw off the shackles of her Russian training. Granted unparalleled access to her subject, Eva Maria Chapman paints an intimate, truthful and sensitive portrait of a unique artist.
