Summary

Budget Bites: Allergy Edition was developed after conducting research into the astronomical cost of purchasing food for people who suffer from allergies.  Following the discovery that allergy sufferers can spend over $4000 more than the average non-allergy sufferer we, the authors, decided to embark on the task of producing a budget cookbook that catered for the main 8 allergens: cow's milk, gluten, eggs, peanuts, tree nuts, soy, fish, and shellfish.

A cultural and social history of Britain’s breads, cakes, and pastries through the ages, from the author of Dining with the Victorians.

The Great British Baking Show and its spinoffs are a modern-day phenomenon, but the British, of course, have been baking for centuries—and here, for the first time, is a comprehensive account of how Britain’s relationship with this much-loved art has changed, evolved, and progressed over time.

Renowned food historian Emma Kay skillfully combines the related histories of Britain’s economy, innovation, technology, health, and cultural and social trends with the personal stories of many of the individuals involved with the whole process: the early pioneers, the recipe writers, the cooks, the entrepreneurs. From pies to puddings, medieval ovens to modern-day mass consumption, the result is a deliciously fascinating read.

Bernstein comes to the rescue with The Complete Beer Course, demystifying brews and breaking down the elements that make beer's flavor spin into distinctively different and delicious directions.Structured around a series of easy-to-follow classes, his course hops from lagers and pilsners to hazy wheat beers, Belgian-style abbey and Trappist ales, aromatic pale ales and bitter IPAs, roasty stouts, barrel-aged brews, belly-warming barley wines, and mouth-puckering sour ales. There is even a class on international beer styles and another on pairing beer with food and starting your own beer cellar.Through suggested, targeted tastings, you'll learn when to drink down—and when to dump those beers down a drain.
