Sinopsis

Toucan Facts explores the fascinating lives of these iconic rainforest birds, revealing the secrets behind their vibrant plumage and remarkable beaks. Toucans are key indicators of rainforest health, and understanding their biology offers valuable insights into these vital ecosystems. Did you know that their seemingly oversized beak is not a hindrance, but a versatile tool used for feeding, communication, and even thermoregulation? The book examines how these birds have evolved to thrive in their environment, making them a compelling case study in evolutionary biology.

The book systematically uncovers the intricate details of toucan biology, starting with an introduction to the various species and their geographical distribution. It progresses to examining the anatomy and physiology of the beak and plumage. It also discusses their survival tactics, challenges they face, and potential conservation strategies.

Through detailed illustrations and photographs, Toucan Facts bridges the gap between biology, ecology, and conservation science, making it an invaluable resource for nature enthusiasts, bird watchers, and students alike.

Pixar Animation Studios, originally The Graphics Group at Lucasfilm, was co-founded by Edwin Catmull and Alvy Ray Smith. It became an independent company in 1986 with investment from Steve Jobs. Pixar is known for its groundbreaking computer-animated feature films, starting with Toy Story (1995). The studio pioneered RenderMan, its own rendering software. Pixar developed the "Braintrust," a creative process with candid feedback. After disagreements with Disney, Pixar was acquired by them in 2006, making Jobs a major Disney shareholder. Pixar's films have achieved both critical and financial success, including Inside Out 2 (2024) as the highest-grossing Pixar film.

    CURIOUS FACT SAMPLES:

Pixar's origins trace back to 1974 when Alexander Schure established the Computer Graphics Lab at the New York Institute of Technology (NYIT), aiming to create the world’s first computer-animated film. This lab laid the foundation for many of the CG techniques that Pixar would later utilize.

The group from NYIT, including Edwin Catmull and Alvy Ray Smith, moved to Lucasfilm in 1979, forming the Graphics Group which was one-third of Lucasfilm's Computer Division. They worked on creating the precursor to RenderMan, called REYES.

The name "Pixar" came about during a brainstorming session for a new digital compositing computer, initially suggested as "Picture Maker". Smith proposed "Pixer" which then evolved to "Pixar".

In February 1986, Pixar was spun off as a corporation with funding from Steve Jobs, who invested $5 million and became the majority shareholder. This happened because the employees were worried that the group would be sold off in Lucas's divorce.

he Sickness Unto Death, and Other Fun Danish Party Games: Kierkegaard Without the Prozac is your gloriously sarcastic, brutally insightful, and occasionally soul-crushing guide to philosophy’s original sadboy, Søren Kierkegaard.
Tired of reading philosophy that feels like intellectual sandpaper? This book unpacks Kierkegaard’s anxiety-fueled, despair-drenched theology with the humor and honesty it desperately needs. From aesthetic dead-ends to existential panic, from absurd leaps of faith to spiritual ghosting, this irreverent (but accurate!) guide doesn’t just explain Kierkegaard—it translates him for the modern reader who’s spiritually curious and emotionally exhausted.
Perfect for readers who love philosophy but hate philosophers, theology with a side of dark humor, and the occasional mental breakdown in pursuit of authenticity.
    What you’ll get inside:
Pseudonyms, despair, and that one time Abraham almost committed murder in the name of faith
The aesthetic life: fun until it isn’t
Why being a good person might still mean you’re completely lost
Faith, absurdity, and how to jump into the void without looking down
Kierkegaard’s existential glow-up in modern philosophy (yes, Sartre, we see you)
A roadmap for reading his actual books without losing your will to live
And a final call to wake up and stop living someone else’s life
No prior philosophy degree required—just a sense of humor, a tolerance for paradox, and maybe a journal for emotional damage control.

This is the audiobook of Part 1 of my memoir, My Amazing 35 Year Journey Abroad. I open the book at a time in my life when I was living in an unheated garage in the dead of winter in Chicago and that came about because of my alcoholism. The year was 1981 and I was 28 years old. By this time in my life I had been kicked out of college, fired from 2 jobs including being fired by my father for crashing my company car drunk, divorced once with another one on the way, and I was broke and jobless. I would then pick myself up and brush myself off and get hired as a stockbroker by Dean Witter Reynolds. I would then blow that great opportunity by, you guessed it, abusing alcohol, and after working for 3 different brokerage houses, I would then quit drinking, start my modeling career, take an inadvertent 1 week ski trip to Austria, and then decide not to get on that return flight to Chicago, but instead would take a train from innsbruck to Nice, France where I would work as a model and actor, and then after a few months in Nice, I would move to Paris where I would live for 6 or so months, and then because of a suggestion from a photographer during a job there, I would end up flying to Singapore where I would work as a model and actor there, then after about 6 months there, I would end up moving to NYC to study acting and work as an actor there, and during my day job, I worked as a skate guard at Rockefeller Center where I would work with LIberace during his show there celebrating the skating rinks 50th birthday and there are photos in the book to prove it. Then from NYC I would move to Hong Kong where I would work as a featured actor in 4 movies, including a role in Kickboxer. I would then move to Bangkok, Thailand where I would start my nudie photography career and become the most prolifice photographer of naked Asian girls in the world. It is now 2024 and I am still in Thailand, retired here at the age of 70.

Kill Bill: Vol. 2 is a 2004 martial arts film directed by Quentin Tarantino, and the second part of a two-film revenge saga. The story follows Beatrix Kiddo, also known as The Bride, who continues her quest to avenge the brutal betrayal by her former comrades in the Deadly Viper Assassination Squad. As she hunts down those responsible for the massacre at her wedding, the film explores themes of vengeance, betrayal, and redemption, blending western, samurai, and kung fu genres. Tarantino's signature style includes sharp dialogue, dynamic action sequences, and an exploration of complex relationships.

    TRIVIA SAMPLES:

"The brothel scene where the Bride meets Esteban Vallejo (played by Michael Parks) was the last scene filmed. It was shot at a real Mexican brothel, with the female extras being actual prostitutes who worked there."

"Robert Rodriguez composed the film's score for just one dollar. In return, Tarantino agreed to direct a segment of Rodriguez's Sin City (2005) for the same fee."

"Pai Mei’s three-inch punch is a reference to Bruce Lee’s famous three-inch knockout punch."

"After the credits, an alternate take shows the Bride ripping out one of the Crazy 88’s eyes."

Did you know that Viking-age Swedes were the founding dynasty of what eventually became Russia?
In contrast to their Danish and Norwegian cousins, Swedish Vikings traveled east rather than west in search of riches, land, and power. The extensive river systems of Russia provided economic and military “super-highways” to the adventurers from the north, who journeyed down them all the way to the Black Sea and Constantinople in search of fame and riches.
The rise in TV shows and movies has renewed the people’s interest in Vikings, but the Swedish Vikings have been notably absent from these accounts. In Captivating History’s History of Sweden, you will learn more about these Swedish adventurers, along with other parts of Sweden’s fascinating history.
In this audiobook, you will discover:The Swedes’ fierce struggle to gain independenceThe “Father of Sweden,” King Gustav Vasa and his dynasty that spawned some of the greatest military minds in EuropeHow the Swedish Empire achieved success and expanded as far as North AmericaSweden’s revolutionary war tactics and how that led to victories on the battlefieldWhy Sweden adopted its famous policy of neutralityThe hero Raoul Wallenberg and his role in WWIIAnd much more!
