Sinopsis

Published in 1908, Orthodoxy is Chesterton’s witty and paradoxical defense of the Christian faith. Written as a kind of spiritual autobiography, he describes his journey from skepticism to belief, showing how Christianity provided the answers to the riddles of existence.

Chesterton argues that modern philosophies often swing between extremes—either denying human dignity or denying human sinfulness—whereas Christianity balances both truths: man is both fallen and made in God’s image. He stresses that faith is not a dull restraint but a source of wonder, adventure, and joy. Christianity, for him, preserved the mysteries and paradoxes (such as weakness becoming strength, or life through death) that make life meaningful.

Ultimately, Orthodoxy defends the idea that Christian belief is not only rational but also the most exciting and imaginative vision of the world.
