Sinopsis

“ReVersed Masterpieces” represents a unique initiative in Italy’s literature panorama. This production from Grace Edizioni, part of the Gruppo editoriale GpM, features tens of nowadays authors, side by side with classic authors.Anthological publications are born from an ancient tradition, a medieval one, and date back - as we know as of now - to the initiative of Pier delle Vigne, which in the first half of the 1200s wanted to collect lyrics of the poets of the Scuola Poetica Siciliana, which established itself in the Magna Curia Federiciana. This initiative takes us back to the origins of the italian literature, with the possibility for the authors involved to let themselves be known to a broader audience.“Making” literature means bringing innovations to an image already existing and this anthological production answers too well to that urge.Grace Edizioni, of which Giampiero Grasso and Giorgio Grasso are promotors, wants to bet on the new literature, often ignored by big commerce. The infinite jungle of new writers, who give themselves that title, finds in Grace Edizioni a sieve and a selection that garantees quality to the italian literature production, enriching the panorama.Writing for the sake of writing is dangerous. Publishing for the sake of publishing is even more dangerous. It’s the ability to bring innovations that makes the difference. And we can assure that Grace Edizioni made it, avoiding publishing anything and everything, but betting on quality and on the abilty of its author to bring innovation to the world of poetry. This anthology, which shows traits of an encyclopedia, is surely deserving of attention.

Dear Land of Flowers, forgive me! -- that I tookThese snatches from thy glittering wealth of song, And twisted to the uses of a book Strains that to alien harps can na'er belong. Thy gems shine purer in their native bed Concealed, beyond the pry of vulgar eyes; And there, through labyrinths of language led, The patient student grasps the glowing prize. Yet many, in their race toward other goals, May joy to feel, albeit at second-hand, Some far faint heart-throb of poetic souls Whose breath makes incense in the flowery Land. Introductory poem by H.A.G.

    Bhaskar Chakrabarti

Bhaskar Chakrabarti's poetry is synonymous with the romantic melancholia inherent to Calcutta. His trenchant poetic voice was one of the most significant to emerge in the 1960s and '70s-perhaps the most prolific period of modern Bengali poetry. Spanning the rise of militant leftism, the spread of crippling poverty across India, the war in Bangladesh, the influx of millions of refugees, the dark, dictatorial days of Indira Gandhi's reign, and the disillusionment of communist rule in Bengal, Chakrabarti's poems plumb the depths of urban angst, expressing the spirit of sadness and alienation in delicate metaphors wrapped in deceptively lucid language.

In this first-ever comprehensive translation of Chakrabarti's work, award-winning translator Arunava Sinha masterfully articulates that clarity of vision, retaining the unique cadence and idioms of the Bengali language. Presenting verses and prose poems from all of Chakrabarti's life-from his first volume, When Will Winter Come, published in 1971, to his last, The Language of Giraffes, published just before his death in 2005, and collecting several unpublished works as well-Things That Happen and Other Poems introduces the world to a brilliant and universal poetic voice of urban life.

'This house. It's called "Sea View". It's just I've looked out of every window, and you can't. You can't see the sea.'
Blackpool, 1976. The driest summer in two hundred years. The beaches are packed. The hotels are heaving. In the sweltering backstreets, far from the choc ices and donkey rides, the Webb Sisters are returning to their mother's run-down guest house, as she lies dying upstairs.
Jez Butterworth's play The Hills of California was first performed at the Harold Pinter Theatre in London's West End in 2024, directed by Sam Mendes, and produced by Sonia Friedman Productions and Neal Street.
