Sinopsis

Reading the works of Arturo Reghini - Pythagoricus Latomusque Insignis (Pythagorean and distinguished Freemason), as his tombstone is engraved in the Budrio cemetery - cannot fail to remind us how he was an absolute giant of Western initiatory thought, a giant whose memory today he is inexplicably clouded and neglected, also and above all in that free-masonry environment which would also have the moral duty not only to remember and rediscover him every day, but to treasure his studies and his precious teachings. But precisely in certain areas, which still owe him so much today, his figure is today considered “uncomfortable” or “cumbersome” and is therefore wronged by not remembering it, condemning it to a sort of tacit damnatio memoriae. The short but profound and inspiring biography of Arturo Reghini that we present today to our English-speaking readers was written in 1947 by Giulio Parise, a close friend and main collaborator and disciple of the great Florentine initiate. It was published by Parise the same year in the magazine of initiatory studies Mondo Occulto (Occult World), a few months after the death of its Master.

1922 was a year of great turbulence and upheaval. Its events reverberated throughout the rest of the twentieth century and still affect us today, 100 years later.

Empires fell. The Ottoman Empire collapsed after more than six centuries. The British Empire had reached its greatest extent but its heyday was over. The Irish Free State was declared and demands for independence in India grew. New nations and new politics came into existence. The Soviet Union was officially created and Mussolini's Italy became the first Fascist state.

In the USA, Prohibition was at its height. The Hollywood film industry, although rocked by a series of scandals, continued to grow. A new mass medium - radio - was making its presence felt and, in Britain, the BBC was founded. In literature it was the year of peak modernism. Both T. S. Eliot's The Waste Land and James Joyce's Ulysses were first published in full.

In society, already changed by the trauma of war and pandemic, the morals of the past seemed increasingly outmoded; new ways of behaving were making their appearance. The Roaring Twenties had begun to roar and the Jazz Age had arrived.

1922 also saw the discovery of Tutankhamun's tomb, the arrest of Mahatma Gandhi, the death of Marcel Proust, the election of a new pope, the release of the first major vampire movie, and the brief imprisonment in Munich of an obscure right-wing demagogue named Adolf Hitler.

In a sequence of vivid sketches, Nick Rennison conjures up all the drama and diversity of an extraordinary year.

"Its eclecticism worked brilliantly... tremendous, beguiling." WILLIAM BOYD

Plunge headlong into the heart of Toulouse: this audiobook vividly restores, with captivating precision, the epic of a major Midi city—from its Celtic origins to the Roman era, from Visigothic splendor to the dramas of the Albigensian Crusade, and on to municipal affirmation and medieval intellectual growth. Discover a crossroads city shaped by its Garonne River, ramparts, markets, religious orders, and capitouls; a melting pot of arts, law, and faith where troubadours, builders, merchants, and jurists intertwine. Henri Ramet, a magistrate-historian of luminous rigor, weaves a clear, dense, and sensitive fresco: living topography, resurrected monuments, explained institutions, major crises recounted at street level (Taur, Daurade, Saint-Sernin, Château Narbonnais), never sacrificing emotion to knowledge. Narration breathes life and rhythm into this urban chronicle, turning archives and stones into characters. For those who love concrete history, world-cities, and collective destinies, here is a broad, scholarly, and vibrant journey—where one feels the heartbeat of "Palladian" Toulouse, century after century. An instant classic for understanding, seeing, and loving the pink city differently.
