Sinopse

In "A History of Ancient Greek Literature," Gilbert Murray offers a comprehensive examination of the literary achievements of ancient Greece, weaving together an account that is both rich in historical detail and insightful literary criticism. Spanning from the Homeric epics to the works of tragedians like Aeschylus, Sophocles, and Euripides, as well as the philosophers and comic playwrights, Murray paints a vivid portrait of the societal and cultural contexts that shaped these timeless texts. His engaging prose style and thoughtful analysis not only illuminate the aesthetic qualities of the literature but also delve into its philosophical and political implications, situating these works within the broader tapestry of Western literature's origins. Gilbert Murray, a prominent classical scholar and translator, was deeply influenced by his academic background and his passion for Greek culture and philosophy. His tenure as a professor of Greek at Oxford and his involvement in various literary circles likely fueled his interest in cataloguing and interpreting the nuances of ancient texts. Murray's scholarly pursuits also extended to the world of theatre, where he endeavored to revive Greek drama, reflecting his commitment to bringing ancient wisdom into contemporary discourse. This book is an essential read for anyone interested in the foundations of Western literature and thought. Murray's eloquent exploration not only serves as an introduction for newcomers to Greek literature but also presents seasoned scholars with enlightening perspectives that resonate beyond the texts themselves. Readers are encouraged to immerse themselves in this scholarly endeavor to appreciate the intricate legacy of ancient Greek authors and their enduring impact on modern storytelling.

The discovery of Tutankhamen's tomb in 1922 remains one of the most significant archaeological events in history, but it also brought with it a mysterious and terrifying legend—the Curse of the Pharaoh. For centuries, the tomb of the young Egyptian king, who ruled during the 18th dynasty, lay hidden beneath the sands of the Valley of the Kings. It wasn’t until British archaeologist Howard Carter and his financial backer, Lord Carnarvon, unearthed the tomb that the world was introduced to the wonder and mystique surrounding King Tutankhamen’s final resting place.
Tutankhamen, who ascended to the throne as a child, died young under uncertain circumstances, leaving behind a legacy that has fascinated historians, archaeologists, and the public alike. His tomb, filled with precious artifacts, murals, and the famous golden mask, was unlike anything ever discovered in ancient Egyptian tombs. Yet, the treasures would be overshadowed by an eerie series of deaths, leading many to believe in a curse linked to the tomb.
The first death tied to the curse was that of Lord Carnarvon, who financed the excavation. His sudden death just months after entering the tomb in 1923 shocked the world, and rumors of a deadly curse spread rapidly. Over the next few years, several individuals connected to the tomb’s discovery met untimely and mysterious deaths, fueling the belief that the wrath of Tutankhamen had been unleashed upon those who dared to disturb his resting place.

"Dear Tulsī, you are much beloved by Lord Kṛṣṇa because your leaves are always at His lotus feet. Dear mālatī flower, dear mallikā flower, dear jasmine flower, all of you must have been touched by Kṛṣṇa while He was passing this way after giving us transcendental enjoyment. Have you seen Mādhava passing this way? O mango trees, O trees of jackfruit, O pear trees and āsana trees! O blackberries and bael trees and trees of the kadamba flower—you are all very pious trees to be living on the bank of the Yamunā. Kṛṣṇa must have passed through this way. Will you kindly let us know which way He has gone?" The Srimad Bhagavatam

Tulsi Devi (Vrinda - Holy Basil) is a sacred plant in Hindu belief. She is regarded as an earthly manifestation of the goddess Srimati Tulsi Devi, and is as an avatar of Lakshmi, and thus the consort of Vishnu. The offering of her leaves is mandatory in the worship of Bhagavan Sri Krishna. Tulsi is regarded as the holiest of all plants and a bridge between heaven and earth. A traditional prayer teaches the creator Brahma and the Ganges resides in her branches, all holy pilgrimage centers in her roots, all deities are in her stem and leaves, and the Vedas are found in the upper part of her branches. The Tulsi herb is a center of household devotion, and is often referred to as the "women's deity" and "a symbol of wifehood and motherhood." Vaishnavites consider it as the manifestation of god in the plant kingdom. Tulsi Devi is one of Krishna’s most intimate servants coming to bless us all with extraordinary fortune. She has delicate purple and green leaves, flower tassels (like miniature temple spires), and an arresting, sweet fragrance famous for attracting the minds of yogis to Krishna’s service via Bhakti Yoga. Tulasi’s wood is carved into the Japa beads on which devotees chant Krishna’s holy name.

    The Next Economy MBA -...

This radical and rigorous rethinking of the traditional MBA program combines solid business principles with a commitment to environmental and social justice.

Many current and aspiring entrepreneurs are looking for a solid business education that also deeply aligns with their progressive values. Based on a course field-tested with over 500 students, this book fills that gap. It covers traditional topics such as business strategy and structure, finance, marketing, recruiting, and branding from a socially just and environmentally regenerative perspective. And it also touches on topics such as strategies to reverse climate change, nonviolent communication, self-managing organizations, locally self-reliant economies, racial justice, and more.

Traditional MBA programs are based on outdated principles that were developed during the Industrial Revolution-and they can be hugely expensive. Sustainable MBA programs, while laudable, are too incremental to make a sufficient impact. The Next Economy MBA is for entrepreneurs seeking to make business an active force for good. It draws on the authors' experience of working with over 300 social enterprises, from small organizations like Winona's Hemp and Heritage Farm to household names like Ben & Jerry's and Patagonia.

Our current economy, what the authors call the "Business as Usual Economy," has created a massive wealth gap, a climate crisis, racial division, and needless housing, food, and healthcare shortages. This book shows how businesses can pave the way to a Next Economy that meets the basic needs of all people and restores and protects the planetary ecosystem.
