Sinopse

Income Gap Facts explores the pervasive issue of income inequality, examining whether it's an unavoidable aspect of modern economies or a result of policy choices and systemic inequalities. This book analyzes wealth distribution statistics to reveal the broad social impacts of these economic disparities. It highlights intriguing facts such as the correlation between high income inequality and reduced social mobility, increased crime rates, and poorer health outcomes, demonstrating that extreme inequality is not only undesirable but also unsustainable.

The book provides a historical context, tracing trends and comparing economic models to understand how they impact wealth distribution. It emphasizes the influence of specific policies, like taxation and labor laws, on income gaps. Structured in three parts, the book begins by introducing key concepts and measurement tools, progresses to examining factors contributing to the income gap, and concludes with a discussion of its social and political consequences, offering potential policy interventions.

Unique for its comprehensive and data-driven approach, the book avoids ideological biases, presenting an objective analysis grounded in statistical databases from global institutions and empirical studies. It adopts an interdisciplinary approach, integrating insights from economics, sociology, and political science to provide a well-rounded perspective. This allows readers to draw their own informed conclusions on the causes and potential solutions for income inequality.

A book can open an entire world of experience or provide a recipe for meatloaf. Either is wonderful to Lewis Buzbee, who has spent much of his life in bookstores as a bookseller, a sales representative, and a customer. In The Yellow-Lighted Bookshop, Buzbee celebrates the unique experience of the bookstore—the smell and touch of books, getting lost in the deep canyons of shelves, and the silent community of readers. He shares his passion for books, which began with ordering through The Weekly Reader in gradeschool. Interwoven throughout is a fascinating historical account of the bookseller trade—from the great Alexandria library with an estimated one million papyrus scrolls to Sylvia Beach's famous Paris bookstore, Shakespeare & Co., that led to the extraordinary effort to publish and sell James Joyce's Ulysses during the 1920s.Rich with anecdotes, Buzbee offers a delightful look at bookstores past and present. For those who relish the enduring pleasures of spending an afternoon finding just the right book, The Yellow-Lighted Bookshop is the perfect choice.

This book contains the following titles:
    - The Swift Conquest: The rise of Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Party did not occur in isolation but was the culmination of a confluence of societal, economic, and political factors. Post-World War I Germany was a nation in turmoil, grappling with humiliation, economic devastation, and political instability. The Treaty of Versailles, signed in 1919, placed the blame for the war squarely on Germany's shoulders, imposing severe reparations that crippled its economy. The German people, burdened by hyperinflation, unemployment, and poverty, became disillusioned with the democratic Weimar Republic, which they perceived as weak and ineffectual.
    - The Most Enigmatic Woman in History: Cleopatra VII, the last active ruler of the Ptolemaic Kingdom of Egypt, remains one of the most enigmatic figures in history. For over two millennia, her name has conjured images of beauty, cunning, and power. Yet the true Cleopatra is shrouded in layers of myth, propaganda, and speculation. She was not merely a seductress as often portrayed but a scholar, a diplomat, and a leader who navigated a tumultuous era in ancient history with remarkable skill.

By the end of D-Day, the Allies had managed to successfully land 170,000 men, including over 75,000 on the British and Canadian beaches, 57,000 on the American beaches, and over 24,000 airborne troops. Thanks to Allied deception, the German army had failed to react to prevent the Allies from making the most of their landings. Just one division, the Hitlerjugend, would arrive the following day. Despite a fearsome and bloody day, the majority of the Allied forces had held their nerve, and most importantly, achieved their objectives. This ensured Operation Overlord was ultimately successful, and victory in Europe would be achieved within less than a year. Churchill was not overstating the achievements of the invasion when he described the plan “the greatest thing we have ever attempted”. The greatest armada the world had ever seen had landed 170,000 soldiers on the heavily defended beaches of Normandy in just 24 hours. More remarkable was the fact that the operation was a success on every major level. Deception, tactical surprise and overwhelming force had contributed to the establishment of an adequate beachhead. Confusion and dissent had stopped the Germans massing for any great counterattack. The Atlantic Wall which Hitler had placed so much faith in had been breached, and the race to Paris was on. The landings in Normandy and the campaign that followed were successful, but that very success brought its own problems.
While D-Day is one of the most famous events of the war, it is widely overlooked that about two months after the landings in Normandy, there was a second Allied landing in France. On August 15, 1944, a combined US-French force landed in southern France on the beaches of the Côte d'Azur as part of Operation Dragoon. In just over four weeks of fighting, the Allied landing led to the liberation of most of southern France and to one of the most audacious and successful Allied operations of World War II.

“Lore of the Watcher angels is an important and often overlooked part of Jewish and Christian traditions that exerts a strong influence on Western magic and occultism. Harold Roth tackles complicated texts like the books of Enoch and Jubilees alongside traditions like Merkavah mysticism and Christian demonology and, in plain language, gives the clearest and best examination of the Watchers and the Nephilim that I have come across yet.” —Jason Miller, author of Consorting with Spirits and other books   The Book of Enoch has captured and commanded interest for the past two thousand years. Sometimes part of religious canon and doctrine, and sometimes outright banned, the Book of Enoch is more popular today than ever. Still many questions remain. Who was Enoch? Who—or what—were the Watchers, and what knowledge did they bring? What became of their wives and their children, the rapacious half-man, half-angel giants, the Nephilim?   From Renaissance magic of Dr. John Dee and early Christian apocalyptic texts, to contemporary conspiracy theories and modern magical angelology, the Book of Enoch has been influential in many spiritual and religious traditions. What has been missing from the various approaches to the Book of Enoch are any real attempts to find not only what is at the center of these stories but also their connections to magic. The Forbidden Knowledge of the Book of Enoch identifies and elucidates those connections.
