Beware the Midnight Ride of the Headless Horseman!

Journey to the secluded glen of Sleepy Hollow, a place where local legends and haunting superstitions hang heavy in the air. Washington Irving's masterpiece, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, introduces us to the lanky and superstitious schoolmaster Ichabod Crane. As he vies for the hand of the wealthy Katrina Van Tassel against the formidable Brom Bones, he find himself navigating more than just a romantic rivalry.

On one fateful, moonless night, Ichabod's journey home takes a terrifying turn as he encounters the region's most infamous specter: the Headless Horseman. Is the galloping Hessian a genuine supernatural threat, or a calculated prank by a jealous rival? Irving's masterful blend of humor, atmosphere, and Gothic suspense has made this story a cornerstone of American literature.

This definitive edition captures the eerie charm and wit that have enchanted readers for over two centuries. A quintessential Halloween classic and a vivid portrait of early American life, this story remains a pulse-pounding exploration of fear and imagination.

"A situation of the most extreme delicacy, if you follow me..."
Bertie Wooster has been sent to New York for a brief breather, largely in an effort to escape the formidable shadow of Aunt Agatha. But his peace is short-lived when he is asked to look after "Chump" Cyril—a young man whose enthusiasm for life is matched only by his complete disregard for common sense.
In Jeeves and the Chump Cyril, Bertie soon finds himself adrift in a most refined kind of trouble. Between Cyril's theatrical ambitions and a letter of introduction capable of blowing Bertie's quiet life to smithereens, logic has quietly stepped outside for fresh air.
As well-meaning intentions drift ever closer to mild catastrophe, the incomparable Jeeves remains calm, precise, and several moves ahead. It is a sparkling example of the Wodehouse tradition: a world where polished manners glide smoothly over questionable judgement, and where consequences remain—thanks to Jeeves—delightfully negotiable.
A perfect listen for those who appreciate elegant mischief, impeccable timing, and the fine art of the narrow escape.
In short: everything appears under control—which is usually the first warning sign.

Edith Nesbit was born on the 15th August 1858 in Kennington, then part of Surrey.

Due to the health issues and tuberculosis of her sister Mary, Nesbit’s early life was one of constant changes of house both in England and on the continent.

At age 17, Nesbit met Hubert Bland and they married three years later―whilst she was 7 months pregnant. Bland also kept his affair with another woman going throughout their marriage and the two children of that relationship were raised by Nesbit as well as her own three with Bland.

Together they were founder members of the Fabian Society in 1884 naming their son Fabian in its honour. They also edited the Society's journal; ‘Today’. Nesbit was an active lecturer and prolific writer on socialism during those years but gradually her work for them dwindled as her career as a children’s writer grew. Her most famous success was ‘The Railway Children’ but she was also very prolific and greatly accomplished in poetry, short stories―especially her macabre ghost and supernatural stories―and novels for adults.

In February 1917, some three years after the death of Bland she married Thomas ‘the Skipper’ Tucker in Woolwich, where he was a ship's engineer on the Woolwich Ferry.

Edith Nesbit died from lung cancer on the 4th May 1924 at her house ‘The Long Boat’ at Jesson, St Mary's Bay, New Romney in Kent. She was 65.
