Summary

Varla Ventura, fan favorite on Huffington Post’s Weird News, frequent guest on Coast to Coast, and bestselling author of The Book of the Bizarre and Beyond Bizarre, introduces a new Weiser Books Collection of forgotten crypto-classics. Magical Creatures is a hair-raising herd of affordable digital editions, curated with Varla’s affectionate and unerring eye for the fantastic. What do you get when you mix a nutty professor, Egyptian mythology, time-travel, past life regression, a mysterious sarcophagus, and specters from another dimension? The Mummy and Miss Nitocris, of course! A tale of a misplaced mummy coming back to life in present day, this 1906 story was one of the foundational works of Egyptian themed horror and mysteries during the early part of the 20th century, when the excavation of Ancient Egypt was headline news. The author, George Chetwnyd Griffith, was a highly regarded Science Fiction and fantasy writer of the late Victorian and early Edwardian era whose illustrated short story A Honeymoon in Space was the first to create the archetype of Greys--space aliens with wide bald heads, dark almond eyes, and hyper intelligence. He died in 1906 of cirrhosis of the liver.

Akin to being a DARKER version of The Princess Bride and The King in Yellow.
Talented storyteller who paints entire scenes plenty of details. His characters are gorgeously written, making the novel very easy to read at lightning speed. As you can see this book is highly reflective of the thoughts we share in our heads once in a while. The story is mysterious and poetic at the same time, giving a resemblance to Hamlet.
Where three ‘hunters’ embark on a fantastical, mind-bending journey across the land of Gehenna, where encounters with mystics, witches and monsters challenge their notions about the world and their existence within it. It’s a thought-provoking, strikingly unique novel that blends and blurs the lines between fantasy, theology, philosophy and meta-fiction into a truly original narrative.

We're the D'Artigo sisters: Half-human, half-Faerie, we are savvy—and sexy—operatives for the Otherworld Intelligence Agency. But our mixed-blood heritage short-circuits our talents at all the wrong times. My sister Camille is a wicked-good witch whose magic is as unpredictable as the weather. My sister Menolly is a vampire trying to get the hang of being undead. And me? I'm Delilah. When I'm under stress, I transform into a tabby cat—and a series of violent murders is really getting me bent out of shape...
Someone's been slaughtering the Weres of the Rainier Puma Pride, and my sisters and I have been enlisted to investigate by Zachary Lyonnesse, golden boy of the werepumas. Right away we smelled demon trouble, and we tracked it directly into the snare of the Hunters Moon Clan, sworn enemies of Puma Pride. But there's more than Were rivalry at work. It's that old demon Shadow Wing who's setting a deadly snare for the Pumas. We have to find out why, which means a visit to one of the Immortals. Unfortunately for my sisters and me, our half-human blood is just enough to put us in mortal danger.
