Sinopsis

In "Red Eagle and the Wars With the Creek Indians of Alabama," George Cary Eggleston meticulously chronicles a pivotal chapter in American history, focusing on the conflict between the United States and the Creek Indians during the early 19th century. Written in a vibrant narrative style that blends historical fact with vivid storytelling, Eggleston provides an engaging portrayal of both the cultural dynamics and the military engagements that defined this tumultuous period. The book is positioned within the broader context of American expansionism and the resultant Indigenous displacement, offering readers a nuanced understanding of the interplay between settler colonialism and Indigenous resistance. George Cary Eggleston, a prominent writer and historian of the late 19th century, was deeply influenced by the sociopolitical challenges of his era, including the Reconstruction period that followed the Civil War. His firsthand experiences in the Southern states and his investigations into local histories provided him with unique insights into the complex relations between Native Americans and American settlers. This background fueled his motivation to document the often-overlooked narratives of Native resistance and colonial incursions, particularly in the South. "Red Eagle and the Wars With the Creek Indians of Alabama" is an indispensable read for anyone interested in American history, Indigenous studies, or the intricacies of conflict. Eggleston's compelling narrative style not only educates but also immerses the reader in a world of rich historical detail, making it an essential addition to both scholarly collections and casual readers' libraries.

From the best-selling author of Cardinal comes a searing examination of the power imbalance in our legal system - where exposing the truth is never guaranteed and, for victims, justice is often elusive.

A masterful and deeply troubling expose, Witness is the culmination of five years' research for award-winning investigative journalist Louise Milligan.
Throughout her career charting the experiences of people who have the courage to come forward to police and then look to find justice in court, Milligan has watched how witnesses are treated (or, too frequently, mistreated) in the courtroom. They have described to her how they relive the associated trauma, often years later. Then, she saw this first-hand when she became a witness and was cross-examined herself in the trial of the decade, R v George Pell.
Never-before-published court transcripts expose widespread systemic flaws. And through a combination of extraordinarily candid interviews with defence counsel, prosecutors and even judges, and the heartbreaking stories of witnesses in a number of high-profile cases, the brutal reality of the system is laid bare.
Revealing the devastating effects of an adversarial legal system that can be sexist, callous and too often weighted towards the rich and powerful, Milligan also highlights its failure to protect the wellbeing of the most vulnerable. In detailing these flaws and the ongoing human cost, Witness is a compelling call for change.

    What's your name?
Asian Americans know the pain of being called names that deny our humanity. We may toggle back and forth between different names as a survival strategy. But it's a challenge to discern what names reflect our true identities as Asian Americans and as Christians. In an era when Asians face ongoing discrimination and marginalization, it can be hard to live into God's calling for our lives.
Asian American Christians need to hear and own our diverse stories beyond the cultural expectations of the model minority or perpetual foreigner. A team from East Asian, Southeast Asian, and South Asian backgrounds explores what it means to learn our names and be seen by God. They encourage us to know our history, telling diverse stories of the Asian diaspora in America who have been shaped and misshaped by migration, culture, and faith. As we live in the multiple tensions of being Asian American Christians, we can discover who we are and what God may have in store for us and our communities.

This is a combo of two titles, which are about the following topics:
The Partition of Ireland: The Federal government of the U.K. of Great Britain and Ireland segmented Ireland into 2 independent polities: Northern Ireland and Southern Ireland. The government of Ireland Act 1920 was handed down May third, 1921. Both parts were to stay inside the UK, and the Act included arrangements for supreme reunification.
Northern Ireland was established with a devolved federal government and stayed a part of the U.K. Most occupants of Southern Ireland didn't recognize the self-proclaimed Irish Republic, choosing to recognize the larger Northern Ireland. The area of Southern Ireland withdrew from the U.K. and ended up being the Irish Free State, which is today the Republic of Ireland, following the Anglo-Irish Treaty.
The Irish Potato Famine: The year 1847, at times called "Black '47," was the absolute worst year of the period. Around 1 million people died and over a million left the nation throughout the Great Cravings, triggering the nation's population to come by 20% to 25%, with certain cities coming by as much as 67 percent between 1841 and 1851. And between the years 1845 and 1855, about 2.1 million people were leaving Ireland, primarily aboard package ships but also on steamboats and barks. This actually made it one of the biggest mass migrations from a single isle in all of history.
Let’s explore this tragic event in history, and let’s see what led up to this, what happened afterwards, and how historians look at it now.

Social media has become an inseparable part of modern life. What started as a way to connect with friends and share moments has evolved into a global phenomenon that influences how we think, feel, and behave. Platforms like Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and Twitter are no longer just tools for communication—they are powerful forces shaping our identities, relationships, and daily habits. While social media offers many benefits, including instant access to information, networking opportunities, and entertainment, its darker side often goes unnoticed. The reality is that millions of people around the world are unknowingly trapped in an endless cycle of scrolling, liking, and seeking validation.

The term "social media addiction" might sound extreme, but it is a growing concern among psychologists, neuroscientists, and everyday users who find themselves unable to put their phones down. Unlike traditional addictions to substances like alcohol or drugs, social media addiction operates in a subtler yet equally powerful way. It hijacks the brain’s reward system, triggering dopamine releases that keep users engaged for hours on end. Every notification, like, or comment acts as a small hit of pleasure, reinforcing compulsive behavior. Over time, this leads to dependency, making it difficult for individuals to disconnect even when they recognize the negative impact on their mental health, relationships, and productivity.

This book explores the shocking truth about social media addiction, diving deep into the science behind it, its effects on our well-being, and what we can do to regain control. From the psychological tricks used by tech companies to keep us engaged to the rising concerns about mental health, self-esteem, and attention spans, each chapter sheds light on an issue that affects people of all ages.
