Sinopse

George Bernard Shaw's *The Collected Works* is a comprehensive anthology that encapsulates the wit and intellectual rigor of one of the most celebrated playwrights and critics of the early 20th century. With a distinctive style blending sharp dialogue with social commentary, Shaw's works explore themes of class struggle, gender dynamics, and the complexities of human relationships. This compilation not only includes his most renowned plays, such as *Pygmalion* and *Saint Joan*, but also a myriad of essays that reflect his views on morality, politics, and the theater itself, embodying the essence of the Fabian Society to which he belonged. Born in 1856 in Dublin, Shaw's upbringing and experiences within the socio-political landscape of Britain profoundly influenced his literary output. He was an outspoken advocate for social reform and a critic of established norms, which is vividly reflected in his ability to provoke thought through humor and irony. His diverse exposure to music, art, and literature enriched his writing, making him a pivotal figure in the transition from Victorian sensibilities to modernist thoughts. *The Collected Works* is highly recommended for both avid readers of literature and those interested in social critique. Shaw's ability to intertwine entertainment with profound philosophical questions makes this collection essential, offering a window into the mind of a man who dared to challenge conventions and inspire change.

An "enlightening and fascinating" exploration of Scotland's royal women, from Lady Macbeth to Mary Queen of Scots and beyond (Booklist).

The lives of the Scottish queens, both those who ruled in their own right and the consorts, have largely been neglected in conventional history books. One of the earliest known Scottish queens was none other than the notorious Lady Macbeth. Was she really the wicked woman depicted in Shakespeare's famous play? Was St. Margaret a demure and obedient wife? Why did Margaret Logie exercise such an influence over her husband, David II, and have we underestimated James VI's consort, Anne of Denmark, frequently written off as a stupid and willful woman? Rosalind K. Marshall delves into these questions and more in this entertaining, impeccably researched book.

The brutal murders of young Devon and Damon Routier in the early morning hours of June 6, 1996, put their mother—Darlie Routier—at the heart of one of the most notorious murder cases in modern Texas history—despite her own throat having been slashed to within two millimeters of her carotid artery.
The actions of a small-town police department and those within Dallas County's ruthless justice system created a perfect storm that swept up the young mother and landed her on death row. There she has remained, in a nine-feet-by-six-feet cell, despite claims of her innocence by those who know her, findings about the alarming fallibility of bloodstain analysis, and her husband's admission that at the time of the murders he was soliciting help to stage a home burglary to commit insurance fraud.
In Dateline Purgatory, award-winning journalist Kathy Cruz enlists current-day legal experts to weigh in on the shocking transgressions that resulted in one of the country's most controversial death penalty convictions.
With the help of the infamous death row inmate and a former FBI Special Agent known as “Crimefighter,” Cruz would find that her journey through Purgatory was as much about herself as it was about the woman dubbed “Dallas’s Susan Smith.”

He could work magic on a safe that would have sent Mandrake the Magician back to the novelty store, and Dr. Strange back to medical school. He and his family risked it all to make the patriarch, Mr. Stan, proud. Punch's pop culture sensibilities, his father's proven skills, and his mother's artistic input merged to create cinema-style capers—elaborately planned and executed, including a spectacular 1992 New York mega-heist of over one billion dollars in diamonds, gold, and precious gems—and they got away with it. Many of the crew members went on to invest in real estate, helping to "build the New York skyline," while others moved to Europe and became the Pink Panthers. They had one rule: No One Gets Hurt. From daring heists to the ultimate escape, discover the true story of Punch, his extraordinary crew, and his high-society family. Edgar Award winner and New York Times bestselling author Burl Barer brings to light the remarkable story of four decades and two generations of America's First Family of kind and generous "altruistic outlaws" in Stealing Manhattan: The Untold Story of America's Billion Dollar Gem Heist Masterminds.

You may have read GG Alcock's books about the kasi economy; now follow his journey to the dynamic world of KasiNomics and learn about the tribal forces that shaped him.
Born White Zulu Bred is the story of a white child and his brother raised in poverty in a Zulu community in rural South Africa during the apartheid era. His extraordinary parents, Creina and Neil Alcock, gave up lives of comfort and privilege to live and work among the destitute people of Msinga, whose material and social well-being became their mission.
But more than that, this is a story about life in South Africa today which, through GG's unique perspective, explores the huge diversity of the country's people – from tribal Zulu warriors to sophisticated urban black township entrepreneurs. A journey from the arid wastes of Msinga into the thriving informal economies of urban townships.
GG's view is that we do not live in a black and white world but in a world of contrast and diversity, one which he wants South Africans, and a world audience, to see for what it is without descending into racial and historical clichés. He takes us through the mazes of township marketplaces, shacks and crowded streets to reveal the proud and dignified world of township entrepreneurs who are transforming South Africa's economy. This is the world that he moves in today as a successful businessman, still walking those spaces and celebrating the vibrant informal economies that are taking part in the KasiNomic Revolution.
GG's story is about being truly African, even as a white person, and it draws on the adventures, the cultural challenges, the informal spaces and the future possibilities of South Africa.

This a collection of lessons learned from the perspective of a young man that has chosen to be a lifelong learner. Some of the lessons are from personal experience and travel. Then there are some from the minds and mouths of others. All lessons are true and authentic to a life lived in abundance and curiosity.
I was once asked while out selling t-shirts from the trunk of my car, "Who are you?" I didn't have the words at the time to sufficiently answer that question. These books are my answer to that question.
My prayer for this assembly of thoughts is that it finds great soil. Germinate and take root. Is nurtured, cultivated, and allowed to grow, and develop into something beautiful in the same way that those whose labor and seed have allowed for me to be aimed in the direction that I have.
