  In this volume we collect together poets who, by the mere colour of their skin, were treated with such disdain and racism that it is difficult to believe that poetry of such tenderness, beauty and authority could exist.

These gods of an ancient world are simple men staring at a nothing moon struggling to invent a word to describe such darkness. The penumbra once had a word for the sun, VVLNA, but in this strange world, this black earth, there seems no use for it. And Father Jackal... every trace has vanished. The penumbra wonder if indeed they are alone here. In the distance stands The House of Wolves. There they will find answers. Some wish for food. Some wish for God. Only one will see the light.

  Two of the most influential and early feminist plays to have ever graced the stage, we have have Miss Julie and The Stronger. 
  Miss Julie is a one act tragedy that finds itself in a similar vein as Henrik Ibsen's "Hedda Gabbler" and "A Doll's House," in which the main woman of the play (Miss Julie) tries to take hold of her own destiny and break away from the system that has failed to meet her needs, but is unable (or unwilling) to see the consequences of her own actions--a desperate cry for legitimacy to a society that seems indifferent to her struggle. 
  The Stronger, in comparison, is a ten minute play about the fallout of such a decision, and confronting that catalyst many years later--a contemplation on the manipulation of thought (both of the main character and the object of her insecurities) and the forgetfulness of coping.

But on a contested piece of land near their village of Beit al-Qadir, Reem and Sayeed are about to go dogging. Don't worry, you're allowed to laugh.
  Sami Ibrahim's play two Palestinians go dogging uses the lens of humour to explore how the everyday becomes political and the political becomes everyday in a conflict zone.
  The play won the Theatre Uncut Political Playwriting Award in 2019 and was premiered in May 2022 at the Royal Court Jerwood Theatre Upstairs, London, directed by Omar Elerian.
