Summary

In "Hegel - Premium Collection," Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel presents a profound exploration of the complexities of reality through his dialectical method. This compilation encompasses some of Hegel's most influential works, including elements of his philosophy of history, logic, and the evolution of self-consciousness. The literary style is intricate and nuanced, characterized by a dense syntax and a systematic approach that beckons careful reading and reflection, situating Hegel firmly within the tradition of German Idealism amidst contemporaries like Fichte and Schelling. The collection invites readers to grapple with concepts such as the Absolute and the unfolding of spirit, ultimately challenging them to reconsider the nature of existence and knowledge itself. Hegel, a towering figure in 19th-century philosophy, was deeply influenced by the tumultuous socio-political climate of his time, particularly the aftermath of the French Revolution, which shaped his views on freedom, history, and ethics. His academic journey, which spanned various positions in Germany, allowed him to refine his dialectical method, a hallmark of his philosophical lexicon. This intellectual backdrop not only propelled his philosophical inquiries but also underscores the urgent relevance of his ideas in understanding the dynamics of freedom and development in human society today. This collection is essential for anyone wishing to delve into the foundations of modern philosophy and the evolution of thought. Hegel's intricate ideas encourage readers to reconsider their perspectives on freedom, selfhood, and the unfolding of history. By engaging with this collection, one steps into the rich landscape of Hegelian thought, making it a vital addition for scholars, students, and anyone intrigued by the philosophical underpinnings of human existence.

Being a parent is probably the most important job many of us will ever have. In this book, clinical psychologist Dr. Edward Christophersen and his colleague, child psychologist Dr. Susan Mortweet, show parents how to raise their child to become the adult we'd all like to be—one who is happy and compassionate, confident but not aggressive, and able to make and keep friends.

They point out that from babyhood on through the school years, children learn these qualities by observing and interacting with their parents. In clearly written, easy-to-follow chapters, parents are shown how to model and reward positive behaviors and avoid the need for ineffective, punitive discipline.

Two key areas are covered in the book: building one's own skills as a parent, and then building one's child's competencies. Scores of practical examples show parents how to teach their children what is important in life, how to communicate clearly, and how to effectively discipline their child. Special parenting topics such as managing a child's behavior in public, monitoring TV, toys, and games, and handling fallout from divorce are also discussed. Listeners then learn how to build their child's basic skills by teaching him or her how to quickly get over upsets and how to play independently.

The tank was first developed by the British and French during World War I as a means to break the deadlock on the Western Front. More so than any previous war, the balance of power lay with the defense, as machine guns, trenches, bunkers, barbed wire, and rapid-firing rifles all made frontal assaults on established positions prohibitively costly. In the closing months of the war, the tank partially evened up that balance, even as the war’s commanders initially proved unsure of how to use them. While it cannot be said that the tank won the war, it contributed to its end and if the fighting had continued another year, the mass production that had started in Allied countries may have proved decisive.
World War II was the culmination of a quarter century of tank development, and it would also be the first major test of tanks in mobile warfare during which they had to face other tanks. However, many of the tanks were constructed with the static warfare of the Western Front in mind and were thus slow and had short operational ranges. Others were too light to face opposing tanks or the new generation of anti-tank weapons that hadn’t existed in World War I. The unsuitability of these tank models for this new kind of warfare was quickly recognized, and the belligerent powers scrambled to create better designs. As each new, improved model came off the assembly lines, the opposing powers rushed to create a tank that could beat it. In that regard, World War II was also a war between rival engineers.
The beginning of World War II found the major powers developing tanks to some extent, but lingering ideas from World War I affected the development of tanks during the Interwar period.
