Sinopse

How one man's mid-career crisis turned into an odyssey into the weirder side of American life.
Like most of us, Geoff Steward was rocked by 2016's litany of horrors. Unlike most of us, Geoff did something about it.
Turning his back on his day job as a lawyer - and the requirement to account for every six minutes of his time - Geoff set off across America in hot pursuit of bears, honky-tonk bars and, above all, nice Americans to restore his faith in the world.
Armed only with his blend of waspish wit and mischievous charm, Geoff roamed from New York to Alaska, meeting ordinary Americans such as Joe le Taxi, the former NYPD police officer who was one of the first on the scene at the Twin Towers; Pam and Bob, a paranoid psychiatrist and a failed actor who once saw the back of Meryl Streep's head; and Sheriff Duke of Calhoun County, who reintroduced Geoff to the long (and armed) arm of the law.
For anyone at a crossroads, contemplating a temporary or permanent career break, this hilarious travel romp offers a new hope.

In the tradition of Ali Wong and Amy Schumer comes this whip-smart, spit-out-your-coffee funny guide for new parents—from popular blogger and columnist Jenny True. Plenty of "new parent" guides cover the basics of breastfeeding, bonding, sleep, and "getting back in shape." Writing as Jenny True on her "Excruciatingly Personal Mommy Blog" and in the "Dear Jenny" column on Romper, Jenny has been called the "postpartum feelings doula," as she doles out her unique mix of humor, rage, and encouragement (with a smidge of practical advice), including:Birth Hurts: Prenatal yoga is a waste of time.Jabba the Hutt Was Just Postpartum: It explains so much.An Open Letter to People Who Say, "Looks like you have your hands full!"And much more!

50 Risks to Take With Your Kids is an easy-to-use framework of challenges for children aged up to ten. You'll find risks that build physical skills, social confidence and character development, plus some all-important parenting risks that will encourage you to think a little differently about raising children. This book is not about developmental KPIs, and it's certainly not about judgement. It's about teaching kids to recognise and assess risk before they enter those ‘risky' teenage years, and about readying them to take on life and all that it brings. And most importantly it's about having fun and connecting as a family along the way.'An honest, funny and beautifully written account of parenting with all of its accursed uncertainties. For a book about risk-taking, it's hugely reassuring.' ANNABEL CRABB, journalist and author‘Full of smart, evidence-based steps that parents (and grandparents!) can take to assist the emotional and cognitive development of their children.' PROFESSOR IAN HICKIE AM, clinical psychiatry researcher‘A practical, sympathetic guide to giving kids back the chance to make some ‘bad' moves and grow from them.' LENORE SKENAZY, founder of the free-range kids movement

Although the Surrey towns of Walton-on-Thames and Weybridge were for many years served by the London bus network, there were also a number of small scale locally based operators running bus services, before selling out to London Transport in the 1930s. Such companies ran coaches for private hire, contracts and pleasure outings, commencing just after the First World War. This book seeks to newly record the history of these proprietors and put the activities of the London General Omnibus Company and later London Transport into local context. The story starts in the 1890s with horse drawn buses linking with the local railway stations and carries the reader through the dawn of the motor era, the rise of the charabanc, entrepreneurial opportunities in the 1920s and consolidation in the 1930s, World War Two and the gradual decline of bus services from the 1960s. It culminates in a return to a de-regulated operating environment in 1986. Capturing the story of Ben Stanley's Coaches (amongst other pioneers) by using primary source material , the book covers more than just routes and vehicles - it attempts to show how road passenger transport was influenced by local social historic and economic activity.

Ever since Johnny Carson first popularized the late-night talk show in 1962 with The Tonight Show, the eleven p.m. to two a.m. comedy time slot on network television has remained an indelible part of our national culture. More than six popular late-night shows air every night of the week, and with recent major shake-ups in the industry, late-night television has never been more relevant to our public consciousness than it is today. Jon Macks, a veteran writer for The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, takes us behind the scenes of this world for an in-depth, colorful look at what really makes these hosts the arbiters of public opinion. From the opening monologue-what's funny, what's dangerous, what's untouchable-to the best vs. worst guests, Macks covers the landscape of late-night comedy and punctuates the narrative with hysterical personal anecdotes, shining the spotlight on some of the very best late-night jokes. With an insider's expertise and a laugh-out-loud voice, Macks explains how late-night TV redefines the news and events of any given day, reshapes public opinion, and even creates our national zeitgeist.
