  Welcome to the garden. Here we poison our fruits, pierce ourselves with thorns, and transform under the light of the full moon. Mad and unhinged, we fall through rabbit holes, walk willingly into fairy rings, and dance in the song of witchcraft, two snakes around our ankles, the juice of berries on our tongues. 
  Inspired by Shirley Jackson’s We Have Always Lived in the Castle, these poems are meditations on female rage, postpartum depression, compulsion, and intrusive thoughts. They pull from periods of sleep deprivation, soul exhaustion, and nightmarish delusions, and each is left untitled, a nod to the stream-of-conscious mind of a new mother. 
  Using found poetry and under the influence of bibliomancy, Wytovich harnesses the occult power of her imagery and words and aligns it with a new, more vulnerable, darkness. These pieces are not only visions of the madwoman in the attic, but ghostly visitations that explore the raw mental torture women sometimes experience after giving birth. 
  This collection heals as much as it scars, and is an honest look at how trauma seeps into the soil of our bodies. Her poems are imagined horrors, fictional fears, and all the unspoken murmurs of a mind lost between reality and dream. What she leaves in her wake is nothing short of horror—the children lost, the garden dead, the women feral, ready to pounce.

  Vivid, witty and humane, Dear Young Monster is Pete MacHale's debut solo show, delving into fear, otherness, and what it means to embrace being the monster the world keeps telling you that you are.
  It premiered at Bristol Old Vic in 2024, directed by Sammy Glover, and was nominated for the WhatsOnStage Award for Best Studio Production. It transferred to Soho Theatre, London, in 2025.

  Life, unpredictable, yields return for sacrifices made. Departing from the conventional path, I surrendered much to existence. Pain, a constant companion, birthed verse—each line a product of anguish turned art. In the ebb and flow of life's challenges, I found solace in writing. What emerged were rhythmic verses, transforming suffering into poetry. Some reflect, others introspect; some offer insight, and others observe. Regardless, each verse is a product of life's trials and emotions. Surprisingly, these verses multiplied over the years. Today, I share them not for accolades, but to be heard amidst the chaos. Some stories must be told, some silences shattered. I offer my rhymes openly, a reflection, a token of my journey.

  Swansdown

  In Swansdown, Donald Platt makes a study of life' s inevitable transitions, from love' s astonishing evolutions, to aging and its attendant losses. With the poem " Cloud Study" Platt brings his own mortality into view. Returning to a painting by Constable, he considers his own perspective, sitting by the Liffey, tending an injured knee. Young mothers, lovers, and runners pass, reminding the poet of who he once was and how quickly life, like weather, shifts. " Two minutes later, // The clouds would have taken on a different cast of light and shape / just like the thunderheads / now piling up above the Liffey."
  
  Platt advises: " To approach old age, one needs a new harsher style." And yet these poems are proof of the softness that may follow life' s harshest reckonings, like the wisps of hair on his beloved brother' s head as he lies dying, " fine / as milkweed silk. / His head a split / dried pod whose seeds / wind will scatter." The poems of Swansdown point us to a " larger landscape," they are the clouds " that scud across the blue escutcheon of sky. . . Sun' s blazon through rain rampant."

  Papua, with its vast regions of unexplored jungles and isolated 
  indigenous tribes, is home to a medicinal plant with potent 
  curative powers. The plant’s unique ability to regenerate 
  human nerves is even more consequential. Neurological  
  scientist Ripon Siraj and his research botanist sister, Rava,   
  search Papua’s interior rivers for this rare miracle plant when  
  they become the target of a scurrilous Asian virologist.  
  A co-worker and his girlfriend are mistaken for Rip and Rava 
  and are murdered. Rip calls Washington D.C. for help- 
  Gar Randolph and his unconventional Grey Hawk International 
  team soon intervene to provide support and protection. 
  Papua’s jungles run deep with intrigue. The Taritatu River 
  reveals breath-taking beauty around every bend but beware. 
  Deadly inhabitants lurk in the shadows. Tension poisons 
  serenity. Everyone comes under a cloud of danger.
