Sinopse

Developing Kaggle Notebooks introduces you to data analysis, with a focus on using Kaggle Notebooks to simultaneously achieve mastery in this fi eld and rise to the top of the Kaggle Notebooks tier. The book is structured as a sevenstep data analysis journey, exploring the features available in Kaggle Notebooks alongside various data analysis techniques. For each topic, we provide one or more notebooks, developing reusable analysis components through Kaggle's Utility Scripts feature, introduced progressively, initially as part of a notebook, and later extracted for use across future notebooks to enhance code reusability on Kaggle. It aims to make the notebooks' code more structured, easy to maintain, and readable.Although the focus of this book is on data analytics, some examples will guide you in preparing a complete machine learning pipeline using Kaggle Notebooks. Starting from initial data ingestion and data quality assessment, you'll move on to preliminary data analysis, advanced data exploration, feature qualifi cation to build a model baseline, and feature engineering. You'll also delve into hyperparameter tuning to iteratively refi ne your model and prepare for submission in Kaggle competitions. Additionally, the book touches on developing notebooks that leverage the power of generative AI using Kaggle Models.

In the shadows of gleaming skyscrapers and vibrant commercial districts lies another city entirely—one marked by systemic deprivation, limited opportunity, and persistent struggle. Urban poverty represents one of the most complex and pressing challenges of our increasingly urbanized world, where the concentration of wealth and opportunity paradoxically exists alongside pockets of profound disadvantage. This comprehensive exploration delves into the multifaceted nature of Urban Poverty and Inequality, examining the lived experiences of The Urban Poor, and analyzing The Urban-Rural Divide that shapes resource distribution and development patterns across landscapes of inequity.
The narrative of urban deprivation is fundamentally a story of systemic contradictions, where proximity to abundance often accentuates rather than alleviates scarcity. By examining the structural forces, policy decisions, historical legacies, and global economic patterns that create and perpetuate urban inequality, this book illuminates the complex interplay between spatial location, economic opportunity, and social mobility in contemporary cities. Readers will journey through the intricate landscapes where urban poverty manifests—from informal settlements and public housing developments to gentrifying neighborhoods and peripheral urban zones—while exploring the resilience strategies, community responses, and policy interventions that address these challenges. Through evidence-based analysis, theoretical frameworks, and human-centered perspectives, we aim to deepen understanding of urban inequality not as an inevitable by-product of urbanization, but as a complex social phenomenon shaped by specific historical contexts, policy choices, and economic systems that can be transformed through intentional, equitable approaches to urban development.

Plasma, often referred to as the fourth state of matter, is a unique and dynamic state in which gas is ionized, allowing free electrons and ions to coexist. Unlike solids, liquids, and gases, plasma exhibits collective behavior due to long-range electromagnetic interactions among its charged particles. It is the most abundant form of matter in the universe, making up stars, the interstellar medium, and even artificial applications on Earth.
The concept of plasma dates back to the late 19th and early 20th centuries when scientists first began studying ionized gases. The term "plasma" was coined in 1928 by Irving Langmuir while researching electrical discharges in gases. Since then, plasma physics has evolved into a vast field, influencing multiple scientific and technological disciplines, including astrophysics, nuclear fusion, space exploration, and industrial applications.
One of the defining characteristics of plasma is its ability to conduct electricity and respond to magnetic fields. Unlike neutral gases, where collisions dominate particle interactions, plasmas are governed by electromagnetic forces, leading to complex behaviors such as waves, instabilities, and turbulence. This property allows plasmas to sustain structures like magnetospheres around planets and controlled fusion reactors designed for energy production.

    Forgiving Humanity - How the...

    Peter Russell

Why has the most innovative of species become so dangerous? The answer, suggests Peter Russell, lies in humanity’s accelerating pace of development. He shows how innovation breeds further innovation—a positive feedback loop leading to exponential rates of change. But our minds cannot grasp the full implications of exponential growth. We think more in terms of linear change, leading to a blind spot on the future.
However fast the pace of change may be today, it will be even faster in the years to come, bringing ever more rapid scientific and technological advances. But ever-accelerating change also creates stress on the systems involved. The faster the change, the greater the stress, and the more likely systemic breakdown. We are heading into a future with technology beyond our dreams, but in a world that is breaking at the seams.
Russell argues there is no blame for this. Spiraling rates of development, with all their consequences, positive and negative, are the inevitable fate of any intelligent, technologically-empowered species.
How do we live with such unsettling conclusions? How can we prepare for a world that is becoming increasingly unpredictable? What does it mean for the future of humanity?
Peter Russell, the widely acclaimed author of The Global Brain and other pioneering works, earned an honors degree in theoretical physics and psychology —as well as a masters degree in computer science —at the University of Cambridge. He subsequently went to India where he explored meditation and Eastern philosophy, and was one of the first people to introduce personal development programs to corporations in the 1970s. His other books include The TM Technique, The Upanishads, Waking Up in Time, From Science to God, and Letting Go of Nothing.
