Sinossi

Hidden Motivation Triggers explores the intriguing power of reverse psychology and its impact on our behavior. It delves into how seemingly counterintuitive approaches can be surprisingly effective in motivation, persuasion, and self-improvement. The book highlights how understanding reactance, the tendency to resist being controlled, and awareness of our cognitive biases can unlock more effective communication strategies. For example, directly pushing someone to act may backfire, whereas subtly suggesting the opposite can sometimes yield better results.

This self-help guide uniquely emphasizes the ethical application of these psychological principles across various contexts. The book progresses from foundational concepts like reactance theory to practical applications in negotiation, parenting, and marketing. It explores the subtle ways these motivation triggers influence our choices, often without our conscious awareness. By understanding these hidden forces, readers can improve their decision-making abilities and foster more collaborative relationships.

Drawing from research in psychology and behavioral economics, this book offers a fresh perspective on influence. It examines how reverse psychology can be used not for manipulation but for fostering genuine cooperation by tapping into intrinsic motivators. Whether you're interested in self-improvement or understanding human behavior, this book provides accessible insights and actionable strategies for leveraging these principles in your daily life.

An in-depth study of the relationship between the Russian government and its first Muslim subjects who served in the vanguard of the empire’s colonialism.

In the 1700s, Kazan Tatar (Muslim scholars of Kazan) and scholarly networks stood at the forefront of Russia’s expansion into the South Urals, western Siberia, and the Kazakh steppe. It was there that the Tatars worked with Russian agents, established settlements, and spread their own religious and intellectual culture that helped shaped their identity in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Kazan Tatars profited economically from Russia’s commercial and military expansion to Muslim lands and began to present themselves as leaders capable of bringing Islamic modernity to the rest of Russia’s Muslim population.

Danielle Ross bridges the history of Russia’s imperial project with the history of Russia’s Muslims by exploring the Kazan Tatars as participants in the construction of the Russian empire. Ross focuses on Muslim clerical and commercial networks to reconstruct the ongoing interaction among Russian imperial policy, nonstate actors, and intellectual developments within Kazan’s Muslim community and also considers the evolving relationship with Central Asia, the Kazakh steppe, and western China. Tatar Empire offers a more Muslim-centered narrative of Russian empire building, making clear the links between cultural reformism and Kazan Tatar participation in the Russian eastward expansion.

“This is a rich study that makes important contributions to the historiography of the Russian Empire, sharpening our picture of an empire in which lines between colonizer and colonized were far from clear.” —The Middle Ground Journal

Bill Gentile did more than just "cover" Nicaragua's Sandinista Revolution and the Contra War. He lived them. First as correspondent for United Press International (UPI) and later as photojournalist for Newsweek magazine, Gentile experienced those historic events from the inside, as the partner of a Nicaraguan woman whose prominent family "adopted" him as one of their own. His memoir takes readers not only to the 1979 revolution, the Contra War in the merciless mountains of Nicaragua and to the deadly streets of El Salvador, but also to the steel mills and backyards of southwestern Pennsylvania where the Italian immigrant community prepared him for those conflicts, and then waited for his return. This book introduces the American public to the victims of U.S. intervention abroad. It is a firsthand, frontline account of the human cost of war.
Wait for Me: True Stories of War, Love and Rock & Roll, explores family, self, love, loss and love again - told against a backdrop of adversity and warfare.

**Wage-Labour and Capital & Value, Price, and Profit** by Karl Marx is a compelling introduction to Marxist economic theory, combining two of his most influential works. In *Wage-Labour and Capital*, Marx explores the relationship between labor and capital, illuminating how the commodification of labor under capitalism generates profit for capitalists at the expense of workers. In *Value, Price, and Profit*, Marx delves deeper into the mechanisms of capitalist economies, discussing the labor theory of value, the creation of surplus value, and the inherent exploitation of wage labor. Together, these texts offer a powerful critique of capitalism's structure and dynamics, providing readers with foundational insights into Marxist economics and the social implications of labor exploitation. This edition is an essential resource for anyone seeking to understand the theories that have shaped modern political and economic thought.

‘An incredible read. I laughed, I cried and my heart was truly touched by this beautifully written true story of hope and humanity at its best.’ Rosemary Conley CBE'An extraordinary story. Truly Inspirational' Tim Vine
An astonishing story of kindness, self-learning, pain, unbelievable hope and the sheer power of love to change a life.
Christmas 1975 and Queen’s ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ is riding high in the charts. In a residential street just outside Cardiff, a persistent knocking breaks the stillness of the evening …
When Rob Parsons, a young lawyer, opens his door he finds a man standing before him clutching a bag of belongings and a frozen chicken. Rob and his wife, Dianne, invite him into their home, cook his chicken and offer him shelter for the night. What happens next is an astonishing story of human kindness, self-learning, incredible pain, unbelievable hope and the sheer power of love to change a life.
A Knock at the Door is the true story of Ronnie Lockwood, a homeless man who entered the home of a young couple, became a dustman and lived as part of their family for over 45 years until his death. But this is not just Ronnie’s story – it is also that of Rob and his family. Outwardly the two men’s lives were worlds apart – as Ronnie emptied rubbish bins, Rob flew on Concorde – and yet, they discovered they had similar struggles. Then the day came, at the lowest moment of the couple’s lives, when they turned to the homeless man for help.
But there were also remarkable turnarounds. Ronnie spent much of his spare time volunteering, including at a homeless centre, and ended up having a £1.6 million well-being centre named after him. Rob left his law practice and he and Dianne began a charity that touches the lives of millions of people.
You will have never read a story like this before, but at its heart is a simple message: whether we are a lawyer or a dustman – tomorrow doesn’t always have to be like yesterday.
This autobiography is not just a tale of two men, but a testament to the power of empathy and kindness. It's a motivational and inspirational journey that delves deep into the realms of poverty, homelessness, and the social dynamics that bind us all.
