Fred Guttenberg, who lost his beloved daughter Jaime in the 2018 Parkland school shooting, and international gun policy consultant Thomas Gabor team up in American Carnage to dismantle some of the most common myths about guns and gun violence.

A national disgrace. Over 40,000 die each year as a result of gun violence in America. Gun law reforms could reduce the number of gun deaths per year, but many political challenges stand in the way. A widespread multi-year misinformation campaign and assault on truth by the gun lobby and gun-extremists sows doubt about the dangers posed by pervasive gun ownership and gun carrying, as well as the potential effectiveness of gun laws.

Debunking popular gun myths. Countering with strong evidence-based research the many slogans and myths repeated incessantly by spokespersons for the gun lobby and its surrogates is essential if we are to have a society in which kids can attend school safely and people can work and enjoy life without fear of being shot. Over the last thirty years, the NRA's campaign to achieve an armed society has succeeded in persuading many Americans that having a gun in the home or carrying a gun makes them safer. The evidence is overwhelming this is not the case. Tackling this and other myths is critical.

“When I finished Witness to Roswell, I said to myself, ‘Case closed!’ for the very wealth and sheer weight of eyewitness testimony.”—George Noory, host, Coast to Coast AM This classic in the field of UFOology is filled with hard-hitting eyewitness testimony of one of the most important events of all time: the actual recovery of a UFO outside of Roswell, New Mexico, in 1947. For more than 70 years, government authorities have led us to believe the wreckage was merely a very conventional weather balloon—but the witnesses who were there continue to tell a different story.Witness to Roswell once again provides a "can't put down" written account of what really transpired in Roswell decades ago. It pries loose the truth the government doesn't want us to know including the revelations of Walter Haut. This edition includes: A growing litany of deathbed confessions describing the "little people" recovered at the crash site. The most comprehensive time line of events ever published on this seminal event. The identity of the Boeing engineer called in to examine the exotic wreckage from the crash. What really took place at the Roswell base hospital and what nurse actually ordered the children’s caskets. The story of the soldier who wore gloves at the dinner table after guarding the "bodies." Clearly, the implications of this information are foreboding. One need only look at the fact that officials now have four explanations for this historic event—but to which one do all the witnesses testify on their deathbeds?Witness to Roswell once again demonstrates to the world that no statute of limitation applies to the truth: We are not alone. This anniversary edition includes a new introduction by the authors and additional material.

    Ancient and Medieval Conspiracy...

Perhaps it should also not be surprising that the themes found in contemporary conspiracy theories are often echoed in ancient conspiracy theories. While some people still insist that Lyndon B. Johnson was in on John F. Kennedy’s assassination, it was speculated across the ancient world that the young Macedonian king, Alexander the Great, conspired to have his own father, Philip II of Macedon, assassinated. Likewise, the New Age beliefs that Mesoamerican ruins in Mexico were somehow tied to extraterrestrials find common cause with people who believe the ancient Indus Valley site at Mohenjo-daro was destroyed by a nuclear weapon. And through it all, the lack of surviving documentary evidence about much of antiquity has allowed for all of the unknowns to become highly speculative sources of debate. For example, did Caesar’s men burn the Library of Alexandria in the 1st century B.C., or was it destroyed later, if at all? Some people even suggest that the Library of Alexandria, whose ruins have never been located, never existed at all.
Few eras are easier to let the imagination run wild than the Middle Ages, which have often been coined the Dark Ages based on a perceived lack of progress and information. In some respects, that is not completely unfounded because less is known about that historical period compared to the eras that came after it. In addition, it was a period marked by a great number of deaths caused by plague epidemics, crusades, and inquisitorial persecutions. Often, researchers are not even sure how and why certain events happened, and these mysteries still occupy the attention of historians.
At the same time, some historical mysteries about the era may never be solved, if only because the relevant excavated material has been lost or the archaeological site has been destroyed. Of course, the lack of answers only makes these enigmas more intriguing.

Few are those that have not heard of the fearsome Vikings and their daring exploits. These Northern seafarers, the scourge of the Middle Ages, left their mark on the world’s history in a grand fashion. Courageous, defiant, and driven by the desire for exploration, the Norsemen were the most feared of all Medieval conquerors. Many thought them invincible, and they held many struggling Christian nations in their sway. From Scotland, England, France, and Ireland, down to the shores of Spain and the Baltic, the Vikings left their undeniable mark. Brutal conquest was not the only tool of their trade: these men were able seafarers and great explorers. Vikings discovered and established colonies in the Faroe Islands, Iceland, Greenland, and North America. Many agree that they were the first to set foot in the land we know today as Canada. All in all, the Vikings hold a vital role in the history of the world. Who knows how our world would look today if it weren’t for these grand Norsemen?

The Upanishads are a collection of ancient Hindu texts that form the basis of the Vedanta school of philosophy. The texts are mystical and contemplative in nature, and discuss topics such as the nature of Brahman (the ultimate reality) and the relationship between Atman (the soul) and Brahman. The Upanishads are considered to be some of the most important Hindu scriptures, and have exerted a profound influence on both Hindu thought and practice. Read in English, unabridged.
