Sinopse

An ambitious young man. A fractured world. A relentless search for purpose and truth.

In The Raw Youth, Fyodor Dostoevsky explores the fragile boundary between youth and adulthood, idealism and disillusionment. Told through the introspective lens of Arkady Dolgoruky—an illegitimate son with grand ambitions—this novel delves into themes of pride, morality, generational conflict, and the desperate yearning to find one's place in the world.

With all the intensity and philosophical depth Dostoevsky is known for, The Raw Youth is both a coming-of-age tale and a raw psychological study of alienation in 19th-century Russia. Lesser known than Crime and Punishment or The Brothers Karamazov, it is no less powerful.

The Brothers Karamazov is a murder mystery, a courtroom drama, and an exploration of erotic rivalry in a series of triangular love affairs involving the "wicked and sentimental" Fyodor Pavlovich Karamazov and his three sons―the impulsive and sensual Dmitri; the coldly rational Ivan; and the healthy, red-cheeked young novice Alyosha. Through the gripping events of their story, Dostoevsky portrays the whole of Russian life, is social and spiritual striving, in what was both the golden age and a tragic turning point in Russian culture.

In the frozen wilderness of the Yukon, the line between survival and surrender is razor-thin. Jack London's To Build a Fire is more than a story; it is a stark, unforgettable confrontation with the raw power of nature and the frailty of human pride.
Here, the biting cold isn't just a setting—it's an unyielding adversary, testing the limits of determination and the cost of hubris. The tale whispers of isolation so profound that silence becomes deafening, and of choices so crucial that a single misstep can spell the difference between life and death.
Through prose as sharp as the frostbitten air, London paints a brutal, awe-inspiring portrait of man versus nature. Yet beneath the surface lies something deeper: an exploration of the delicate balance between human ingenuity and the primal forces of the wild. To Build a Fire dares readers to reflect on their own resilience—and their vulnerability—when faced with an indifferent universe.
This is a story not merely to read, but to experience: a chilling reminder that nature does not forgive, and survival is earned one breath at a time.

Walter Lionel George was born to British parents on the 20th March 1882 in Paris, France.

It was not until he was a young man of 20 that he learned English. In 1905 he moved to London to work in an office but soon found himself working as a journalist, and as a foreign correspondent, for various London newspapers.

By 1911, with the publication of his first novel ‘A Bed of Roses’, which portrayed the fall of a penniless young woman into prostitution, his efforts were rewarded, and he turned to literature as a full-time career.

His writings now sold well. He added short stories to his offerings as well as literary essays and several tracts that discussed left-wing themes. Some critics thought his subject matter to be difficult and poorly chosen. His political views gained him little credit amongst his peers although such luminaries as George Orwell praised both subject matter and style.

His personal life was also turbulent. His three marriages left him widowed twice. In 1908 he married Helen Porter who died in 1914. Helen Agnes Moorhead followed in 1916 but died only 4 years later. His last marriage was to Kathleen Geipel in 1921.

    W. L George died on 30th January 1926. He was 43.
