Sinopse

Autumn 1943: An angry American press has blamed the RAF for heavy U.S. B-17 losses over Europe. To restore confidence, joint Allied operations are planned by RAF and 8th Air Force top brass. 633 Squadron, whose Rhine Maiden mission success has won them a glorious reputation, is called in to launch Operation Crucible. It is to be a Dieppe-style landing by the Americans, supported by the aces of 633 Squadron. Their hazardous role: to give ground support to troops against overwhelming firepower and totally unforeseen odds...

Frederick E. Smith (1919-2012) joined the R.A.F. in 1939 as a wireless operator/air gunner and commenced service in early 1940, serving in Britain, Africa and finally the Far East. At the end of the war, he married and worked for several years in South Africa before returning to England to fulfill his lifelong ambition to write. Two years later, his first play was produced and his first novel published. Since then, he wrote over forty novels, about eighty short stories and two plays. Two novels, 633 Squadron and The Devil Doll, were made into films and one, A Killing for the Hawks, won the Mark Twain Literary Award.

The Western Han Dynasty: A History of China, PART THREE takes you on a journey through ambition, betrayal, war, and the struggle for power. From Emperor Yuan’s court to the dynasty’s fall and rebirth under Liu Xiu, this book brings to life the rulers, rebels, and visionaries who shaped one of China’s most fascinating eras.
Inside the imperial palace, love and power intertwined. Figures like Zhao Feiyan, a dancer turned empress, and the “Cut-Sleeve Emperor,” whose personal life left a historic mark, rose to prominence. Meanwhile, political schemes brewed. Wang Mang, a seemingly noble reformer, seized the throne, triggering chaos, rebellion, and his own dramatic downfall.
Beyond the palace, Han power extended through diplomacy and war. General Chen Tang’s bold campaign proved Han’s far-reaching influence. Meanwhile, Wang Zhaojun, sent to marry a Xiongnu chieftain, sacrificed her status to bring peace beyond the Great Wall.
As the empire crumbled, Liu Xiu waited. Patient and strategic, he seized the moment to lead a rebellion that restored the Han Dynasty. His rise marked the climax of this era of transformation.
This is more than history—it’s a saga of power, betrayal, sacrifice, and resilience. If you love epic tales of real-life intrigue and legacy, this book will draw you deep into the Western Han's dramatic rise, fall, and rebirth.

Mairi Chisholm and Elsie Knocker were two British nurses and ambulance drivers whose staggeringly heroic efforts during World War I saved countless lives and earned them life-long honor. They were especially known for their determination to treat wounded soldiers on the front lines instead of transporting them at great risk to "safer" hospital facilities, even though many of their actions went directly contrary to official bureaucratic regulations. In November of 1914, they took the step for which they are most famous. They decided to leave the corps and set up their own dressing station five miles east in a town named Pervyse, north of Ypres, just one hundred yards from the trenches. Here, in a vacant cellar which they named the "Poste de Secours Anglais" ("British First Aid Post"), the two would spend the next three and a half years aiding the wounded in the Belgian sector. Knocker gave most of the medical attention, while Chisholm transported the injured, often in terrible conditions and under fire, to a base hospital 15 miles away. No longer affiliated with the Belgian Red Cross, they were forced to raise their own funds. With donations they arranged for the cellar to be reinforced with concrete and even have a steel door fitted, supplied by Harrods. Through sheer perseverance Knocker was able to arrange for the two of them to be officially seconded to the Belgian garrison stationed there. Equipped with cameras, both women photographed not only each other but also much of the suffering around them. In January 1915, they were rewarded for their courageous work on the front lines when they were both decorated by King Albert I of Belgium with the Order of Léopold II, Knights Cross. In this account, Geraldine Edith Mitton has acted as more than an editor; she has taken the muddy journals and "home letters" of "the Two" (as she continually and reverently refers to Knocker and Chisholm) and created out of them a lucid, eloquent, and coherent story of two heroic individuals doing their part on the Western Front. You are not crazy. You are not weak. You are not broken. You are injured. And injuries can heal.
For decades, John Boyle looked successful on the outside—Harvard graduate, business leader, husband, father—but inside, he was unraveling. Panic attacks, emotional spirals, chronic tension, and a body that never felt safe followed him everywhere. What he never knew was that the source of his suffering wasn’t weakness. It was Complex PTSD, the invisible wound formed in a childhood home ruled by fear, volatility, and silence.
In Invisible Wounds, John takes readers on a vulnerable and deeply human journey through the reality of childhood trauma and the lifelong effects it leaves on the mind and body. With gripping storytelling, trauma-informed insight, and a faith-filled lens, he reveals how C-PTSD shapes relationships, sabotages confidence, fuels perfectionism, and quietly rewires the nervous system. Along the way, readers meet the frightened boy he once was, the man that didn’t have everything all together, and the survivor he ultimately became.
Blending personal narrative with practical guidance, John offers clarity for those who have been misdiagnosed, misunderstood, or told to “just get over it.” He explains emotional flashbacks, hypervigilance, people-pleasing, dissociation, and the physical symptoms trauma imprints on the body. Most of all, he speaks directly to the reader who feels overwhelmed, ashamed, or unseen.
If you have ever wondered Why am I like this? Why can’t I move on?, this book will help you name what hurts without judgment and discover the lifelines that make healing possible.
Honest, compassionate, and hope-filled, Invisible Wounds is a lifeline for every survivor searching for language, understanding, and a path forward. Start the journey toward healing today.

Hillbilly Elegy: A Memoir of a Family and Culture in Crisis by J. D. Vance Book Summary Readtrepreneur(Disclaimer: This is NOT the original book, but an unofficial summary.)
A tale of how hard it is to move up without going back down once again. Hillbilly Elegy portrays a family without money in their pockets and doing anything in their hands to escape from the clutches of poverty. Through a lot of struggle, they managed to have a grandchild who would graduate from Yale Law School. Everything appeared to be fine, but the ghosts of the past still haunts the protagonist who is trying to move up while supporting his family.(Note: This summary is wholly written and published by readtrepreneur.com It is not affiliated with the original author in any way)
"Psychologists call it 'learned helplessness' when a person believes, as I did during my youth, that the choices I made had no effect on the outcomes in my life." - J.D. Vance
A memoir of a man who suffered a lot to get to where he is. It serves as an analysis of a culture in crisis but also, as proof that hard work pays off and that it doesn't matter how bad your situation is, you can always move forward. A very touching story with a bit of humor and a lot of interesting anecdotes. Many people have lost the opportunity to touch the American dream, J.D Vance talks all about in this moving memoir.
P.S. Hillbilly Elegy is an extremely touching book which serves as an eye-opener about the cultural decline of the United States.
