The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes is a collection of twelve short stories by Arthur Conan Doyle, featuring his fictional detective Sherlock Holmes. It was first published on 14 October 1892; the individual stories had been serialised in The Strand Magazine between July 1891 and June 1892. The stories are not in chronological order, and the only characters common to all twelve are Holmes and Dr. Watson. The stories are related in first-person narrative from Watson's point of view.
In general the stories in The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes identify, and try to correct, social injustices. Holmes is portrayed as offering a new, fairer sense of justice. The stories were well received, and boosted the subscriptions figures of The Strand Magazine, prompting Doyle to be able to demand more money for his next set of stories. The first story, "A Scandal in Bohemia", includes the character of Irene Adler, who, despite being featured only within this one story by Doyle, is a prominent character in modern Sherlock Holmes adaptations, generally as a love interest for Holmes. Doyle included four of the twelve stories from this collection in his twelve favourite Sherlock Holmes stories, picking "The Adventure of the Speckled Band" as his overall favourite.

Content: I. A Scandal in Bohemia / II. The Red-Headed League / III. A Case of Identity / IV. The Boscombe Valley Mystery / V. The Five Orange Pips / VI. The Man with the Twisted Lip / VII. The Adventure of the Blue Carbuncle / VIII. The Adventure of the Speckled Band / IX. The Adventure of the Engineer’s Thumb / X. The Adventure of the Noble Bachelor / XI. There is something about the number 3.

The Ancient Greeks believed 3 was the perfect number, and in China 3 has always been a lucky number, and they know a thing or two.

Most religions also have 3 this and 3 that and, of course, in these more modern times, three’s a crowd may be too many, except when it’s a ménage à trois. It seems good things usually come in threes.

Whatever history and culture says WE think 3, a hat-trick of stories, is a great number to explore themes and literary avenues that classic authors were so adept at creating.

Marcus Beckham paed his pipe, flicked the lighter, then puffed 5 times — the exact same thing he did every time he felt like indulging. “She’s really quite naive, isn’t she?” Another puff. “Still she serves our purposes nicely I think…”
Daniel Carstairs glanced toward the generous window, noting Miami’s stormy skies. “A storm is brewing.” he commented as he returned his attention to his junior partner. “And I’m not talking about the weather…”
A snort. “She’s expendable — if things aren’t as we desire, then we simply make other arrangements. It’s really a rather basic solution…”
Carstairs stood, his intention clear as he headed for Beckham’s office door. “Should we find it’s not as simple as you pronounce, there will be consequences. If you’re not familiar with them, it will behoove you to become enlightened.” His hand on the door knob, he turned, his eyes signaling the message he meant to deliver. “This better work, Marcus…”
When Declan Kilgarry and Colbie Colleen joined forces against a hush-hush and illicit environmental triumvirate, partners of Kilgarry, Bryson and Colleen Investigations find themselves mired in danger, intrigue, and murder, Unsuspecting of undercurrents catapulting them into alarming and deadly situations, each embarks on a case separate from the others. Author Faith Wood’s Risk Required transports readers into the lives of Declan Kilgarry and Colbie Colleen, each preferring their own investigative style.
