Sinopse

The Trial is a novel written by Franz Kafka. One of Kafka's best-known works, it tells the story of a man arrested and prosecuted by a remote, inaccessible authority, with the nature of his crime revealed to neither him nor the reader. The terrifying tale of Joseph K, a respectable functionary in a bank, who is suddenly arrested and must defend his innocence against a charge about which he can get no information. A nightmare vision of the excesses of modern bureaucracy wedded to the mad agendas of twentieth-century totalitarian regimes.

Look at Joseph K., a bank officer living in a country with a constitution. He wakes up one day with strange men in his apartment telling him he's under arrest. Why or for what offense, no one knows. The arresting officers themselves don't know and can't tell him. Even if he's under arrest, however, no one picks him up or locks him in jail. He can still go to his office, work, perform his customary daily chores, and do whatever he wants to do as he awaits his trial. But he is understandably anxious and worried. He is, after all, charged with an unknown but very grave offense. He has a criminal case. He is an accused. He is under arrest.

For this problem he consults so many. He gets a lawyer. His uncle comes to his aid. He talks with his lawyer's other client--also charged and under arrest like him. He consults other people, a painter (who is said to know the "Court"), some women, a priest, etc. about his case. But no one can tell him what the charge is and what his sentence will be. The "Examining Magistrate," the "Judges," the "Court," the proceedings/ trial, and even the "Law" itself--they all seem to be unsolvable enigmas.

Slotback Rhapsody is Friday Night Lights all grown up. Not since Don Delillo’s End Zone has there been such a brilliant portrayal of charming meatheads and on-field action. From a writer who works as a journalist in pro sports, Slotback Rhapsody is a hilarious and insider account of what it’s like to be a professional athlete in today’s 24/7 idol-obsessed culture, as well as a meditation on the high cost of single-mindedness.

Step one of burning a book is finding a disagreeable premise within. To simplify this process, each story is followed by a reason it should be immolated, opined by the author’s critics.
"Lucky Girl Noir" is about a cop solving the murder of a ‘Lucky Girl,’ a woman born with probability consistently in her favor. Burning this story would be a win against plagiarism.
"Three Days West" is an acid-Western about cowboys exploiting their otherworldly connection in frontier Colorado. This story deserves burning for ruining pulp heroes.
"Zantar" is Tarzan with aliens and raccoons. Burning seems appropriate, as it continues the author’s insatiable bloodlust.
"Sea Creatures" is a sapphic love story between a siren and a mermaid. The story deserves burning for suggesting bras are an art form.
"Lizard People Take Orlando" tells the story of Zaffre Davis, a student running for mayor while keeping his life as a scalie secret. Burning should be considered due to its depictions of furries as Democrats.
"The Spirit Realm" is about the survivor of a mass poisoning who wakes up to find he can talk to alcohol. No character represents absinthe, a crime best punished by burning.
"The Pimp That Slapped the Ripper" is about the fall of Jack the Ripper at the hands of a procurer who will protect her property at any cost. The author’s softness has robbed the story of graphic detail; their omission begets burning.
"Washed" is the story of a man who loses his memory when he showers. Burn this one to eliminate the author’s ugly past.
"An American Weekend" is about a boy visited by the human embodiments of Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, who guide him out of his funk. Turn it to ashes; this interpretation of the weekend reeks of privilege.
"Roadwork" is about a lemurtologist, an exorcist for the DMV who removes ghosts from road accidents. Tossing this story in the fire could wound a hateful author, smudging the name of the DMV.

After a while, this cabbie began feeling the same way, and states: “some entertaining, weird, and even paranormal things took place in my cab, which you won’t want to miss!” These are his memoirs and the account of the haunting dynamics that occurred on his graveyard shifts, when things go bump in the night.
