Disorderly Magic and Other Disturbances is a pop meditation on a number of themes: speed, delirium and distance, disillusion, urbanity, various manifestations of the idea of the wilderness and the wasteland, madness, dissolution, memory, mourning, forgetting, hauntology, hauntings, rapid transits, the non-existent, and conjuring the future. The work mixes magic, culture, mystery, memoir, history, melodrama - it is an invocation, an evocation, with dreamlike freedom of movement between past and present, from personal to universal.

The beating heart, the drumbeat, the very force of life. What then when we say ‘it breaks’? ‘I’m heart-broken’? Few of us escape a life without some measure of heartache and the pain it causes.

In this volume we give full rein to our classic poets across the centuries from Shakespeare and Aphra Behn to Rupert Brooke, Edna St Vincent Millay, A E Housman and continue through Radclyffe Hall, Emily Dickinson and Oscar Wilde.

It is a journey through feelings, thoughts and expressions in words that we instantly understand, claim as our own and yet reveal other layers, other avenues of thought.

Whether to soothe the soul, to reconcile with a different perhaps fractured reality, and come to terms with dejection, rejection or vent with bitterness, rage and seek revenge, our poets have words and lines of verse to help balm, repair and better understand these emotional times.

Come and listen to one of the most famous collaborations of early twentieth century Czech literature, "The Insect Play, or Ad Infinitum."
Come and see how many similarities The Brothers Čapek draw between our problems, our beliefs, and our struggles with the lives of the very critters that walk beneath our feet. Join our inebriated narrator as he witnesses the world of the insects become larger than life--how the butterflies attempt to woo the other sex, how dung beetles work and work to get their nest egg ready for... someday, and how the ants make it their mission to conquer all of the land between one blade of grass and another--all in the name of democracy. A truly surreal and remarkable experience that you won't want to miss, this three act play will stick with you long after its initial runtime.

More Songs the Radio Won’t Play...

    Stan Rogal

Lyrical poetry inspired by popular songs, Rogal sweeps the reader through the journey of creation.

In More Songs the Radio Won’t Play, Stan Rogal takes formerly “popular” tunes (from various genres) and transforms them. Self-referentiality; mashups of the erudite and profane; allusions to other arts and sciences; the insertion and bending of biographical and historical facts; problematic snippets of philosophy and literary theory, quotes, and bastardizations; deploying non- or a-political language to challenge notions of how a poem should work; sampling; and off-kilter humour work together to update Rogal’s playlist for a present-day audience.

While his poems unavoidably serve to comment on the world today, Rogal resists a central message. The true emphasis of this collection is on the process of creation. It’s not the destination but the journey that is of significance. Not mere cover versions, not exactly parodies (though parodic), these poems are redactions, mutations, Frankenstein’s monsters … they resemble the original — somewhat — yet are also grossly different.
