Sinopsis

Paris, 1958. Just who was it who sent Monsieur Sergent, the quiet and distinguished resident of 11, rue François Ponsart, 16th arrondissement, an air-mailed letter from Hong Kong? wonders Léonie, the caretaker of that exclusive building, when she finds it in her batch of morning mail.
Curiosity, though, has a well-known consequence for cats and it won't be long before the same result mars the pretty marble floor of a flat close by. One cannot, it seems, disturb the shady past of a remote old French Colony in South China: that of Fort Bayard, with impunity.
Taking on the role of reluctant private investigator, Léonie attempts to discover the links connecting Monsieur Sergent to this forgotten world, uncovering strange ghosts along the way: Bouillon and Vallée, the railwaymen; Claret-Llobet, the rogue; Wawa, the little devil; and Pah, the touching young girl... while, at the same time, trying to deal with Inspector Fleurus of the Paris CID impeding her progress and with other intruders inviting themselves into the inquiry.

    Pride goes before the fall.
1900s Austrian Tyrol. Fritz Hanny, confident, optimistic, and vain, enjoys the prestige of belonging to one of the most respected families in the Reschen Valley. When he falls in love with Cecilia, a young girl in a neighboring village, he pursues her like everything else he wants: by breaking the rules if he must. But when the First World War breaks, one external force after another cuts Fritz down. Suffering disappointment, violence, and conflict, Fritz becomes a desperate man. When the Great War ends, Fritz is trapped between two borders: on one side, the family he has. On the other, the family he wants.
This dark and gritty stand-alone novella is a prequel to NO MAN'S LAND, the first book in the Reschen Valley series.
”Lucyk-Berger has explored the darker side of human nature in this tale, and she has done so with great skill and splendour. This story appalled, impressed, and fascinated in equal measures. It is wonderfully told and impossible to put down." - Mary Anne Yarde

From a #1 New York Times–bestselling author: A “magnificent” epic based on the early life of Genghis Khan (New York Herald Tribune). This sweeping saga captures life in the Far East during the Middle Ages and dramatizes the events that transformed a Mongol tribesman named Temujin into the man who would conquer Asia and be known to the world for centuries to come as Genghis Khan.   Raised by an indomitable woman and educated by his outcast uncle, Temujin becomes a fearsome warrior who inspires loyalty in his friends and hatred in his enemies. But he is also blessed with a keen intelligence and the charisma of a natural born leader. In an era marked by treachery and savage violence, these gifts lead Temujin to a relentless pursuit of power.   From the Gobi Desert to Samarkand, Taylor Caldwell transports readers to a distant world and shines a brilliant light on one of history’s most enigmatic figures. On her “huge historical canvas . . . blood spurts from the knife; beads of sweat stand out on straining flesh; lusts are consummated and revenges achieved” (New York Herald Tribune).

From best-selling author Rita Mae Brown, another clever, endearing story in the Foxhunting mystery series. Lushly described scenes from the hunt, talking animals who help solve the murder, and the beloved Sister Jane reunite to continue the New York Times best-selling mystery series. Book five, which focuses on the hound, draws us into the murky financial scandals of foxhunting society-including a sharp-tongued, wheelchair-bound hellion of a bookkeeper, and a rich former hunt club donor who thinks he can out-class the intrepid Sister Jane with the purchase of his own pack of hounds. Only Sister Jane, along with her furry friends who, per usual, discuss the intrigues amongst themselves, is able to uncover the mystery of the missing money and the dead body! Keep in mind, in American foxhunting, the foxes always get away-so this is a series for animal lovers as well as the sporting crowd!
