Summary

Unscripted: The Epic Battle for a Media Empire and the Redstone Family Legacy by James B. Stewart Study Guide

Shari Redstone forcefully pushed Philippe Dauman to the ground, and Les Moonves was deceitful. A new book about the Redstone family, titled "Unscripted: The Epic Struggle for a Media Empire and the Redstone Family Legacy," is shedding light on the challenging journey of Paramount Worldwide. It explores themes of sex, deception, family conflicts, and betrayal within the boardroom. Written by James Stewart and Rachel Abrams, journalists from The New York Times, the book has quickly become a bestseller on Amazon.
The book elaborates on the already-known dysfunctional aspects of the late patriarch Sumner Redstone's life. It reveals the chaos within Viacom and CBS Inc. caused by Sumner's changing loyalties, sexual fixations, and declining physical and mental health. Combining elements of a captivating soap opera, a business book, and a legal record, the narrative not only delves into Sumner's decline but also highlights the downfall of media mogul Les Moonves and the individuals who played a part in his demise.
Following the public exposure of Harvey Weinstein and the subsequent rise of the #MeToo movement, Moonves and many others faced investigations, encouraging women to come forward with their own stories. However, Moonves' downfall was not solely due to past allegations of harassment, but rather his prolonged attempts to cover up the situation by lying to the board and offering an actress a job in exchange for her silence. This left producers and filmmakers questioning his true character and capabilities. Despite his appalling behavior, Moonves nearly received a severance package of $120 million, which deeply disturbed him.
The book also highlights troubling incidents, such as a former LAPD captain who worked for Moonves at CBS forwarding a police complaint from an alleged victim to company officials, who then presented it to the former CEO. This shocking event was exposed in a settlement with the New York Attorney General, but the book provides additional details.
Another disturbing revelation is that Sumner Redstone, the grandfather, attempted to steal the romantic interests of his grandson, Brandon Korff, including an incident at the MTV Video Music Awards. To address this, Korff sought the assistance of a matchmaker named Patti Stager to help his grandfather find love. Sydney Holland turned out to be a suitable match, and she and Manuel Herzer, another of Sumner's girlfriends, shared his $150 million fortune before being cut off by him.

Understand History's Most Enigmatic Serial Killer
In December of 1968, a serial killer began orchestrating a campaign of terror in the San Francisco Bay Area. Not satisfied with the simple act of murder, he taunted law enforcement and the public by writing letters to local newspapers. Through often cryptic and bizarre content--including four ciphers, three (now two) of which have never been solved--the psychopath played a twisted game. Reporters dubbed the man the "Cipher Killer," but the murderer chose a different name for himself: the Zodiac. Eventually, he would claim to have murdered thirty-seven. Law enforcement, however, could only account for five.
In 1971, authenticated communications with the Zodiac ceased. The elusive fugitive resurfaced briefly three years later, sending a small number of communiqués, before disappearing for good. What started out with shocking abruptness slowly dissolved into mysterious uncertainty. To this day, the Zodiac's true identity remains one of the twentieth century's greatest mysteries...
In the final volume of The Zodiac Revisited, Michael uses the insights developed in Volume 2 to reexamine the killer's letters and crimes as well as the possibility that the killer committed a series of murders in Southern California.

From the internationally best selling author of Red Herrings and White Elephants, Pop Goes the Weasel, New World Order and many more; The events of 9/11 2001 must not be forgotten because the consequences and still revolving around the world today. The events that took place on September 11, 2001 were the most important of our generation. Possibly the most important of our lifetimes and certainly the since the bombing of Pearl Harbour and the Second World War. But they will definitely not be the Crime of the Century. There is much more to come, although hopefully not in my lifetime. For over a decade we have been told on every news program, every radio bulletin, in speeches, statements & announcements, front page stories, magazine articles, Government policy announcements and by every government official throughout the West; that the world has changed. And we have to react with it.We are told that 9/11 has changed the course of our domestic and foreign policy. (It certainly has) Our civil liberties must be amended with the changing times. Those responsible and their allies must be hunted down and punished, however loosely connected they are, regardless of the cost, either in human or financial measure. The event must not be forgotten. It should dominate debate, both public and private. We must reconfigure, adapt, refocus, reprioritise and come together as one, with our allies, to defend our freedoms and liberties. And we should do everything we can to make sure it never happens again. And that means we must rely on the elected policy makers, who are advised by experts with minds immeasurably greater than ours. And then do as we are told and pay for it.Really, how does a projectile manage to hit the Pentagon in Washington DC? How can that even happen, never mind New York for the moment. How do Fred Flintstone and Barney Rubble manage to pull that off?So find out who really was responsible and why...?

The New York Times bestselling coauthors uncover new information in the Colonial Parkway Murders of 1980s Virginia in this true crime investigation.   For four years a killer, or killers, stalked Virginia’s Tidewater region, carefully selecting victims and terrorizing the local community. Again and again, young people in the prime of their lives were targeted. But the pattern that stitched these killings together was more like a spider web of theory, intrigue, and mathematics. Then, mysteriously, the killing spree stopped. The unknown predator, or predators, who stalked the Colonial Parkway seemingly disappeared. Now, father-daughter true crime authors Blaine Pardoe and Victoria Hester blow the dust off of these cases. Interviewing the victims’ family and friends, as well as members of law enforcement, they provide the most complete and in-depth look at these horrifying murders and disappearances. The author-investigators peel back the rumors and myths surrounding these crimes and provide new information never before revealed about the investigations.  “Remarkable research and a compelling narrative…relentless and harrowing.”—Burl Barer, author of Betrayal in Blue
