Sinopse

In "The Secret Garden," Frances Hodgson Burnett weaves a tale that harmonizes themes of rejuvenation, the power of nature, and the transformative journey of self-discovery. The novel is set in the early 20th century, rich with Victorian sensibilities, yet it resonates with the timeless realities of childhood healing and friendship. Through lyrical prose and vivid imagery, Burnett crafts a world where the hidden garden becomes a symbol of hope and regeneration, inviting readers to explore the parallels between the natural environment and personal growth. The narrative is interspersed with elements of gothic tradition and the exploration of deep emotional struggles, all while fostering a poignant exploration of resilience and the bonds of kinship. Frances Hodgson Burnett, an acclaimed author of children's literature, drew on her own experiences of loneliness and transformation to create her beloved characters. Born in 1849 in England and later moving to America, she faced significant challenges during her early life, including the loss of her father and financial difficulties. These personal trials influenced her portrayal of the orphaned and isolated Mary Lennox, allowing her to explore themes of healing and connection through the lens of youth within the natural world. I highly recommend "The Secret Garden" to readers of all ages seeking an enriching and evocative story that celebrates both the restorative power of nature and the enduring spirit of human connection. Burnett's masterful storytelling invites readers to reflect on their own experiences of transformation, making this classic a timeless testament to the profound impact of love and companionship.

Zoo Quest chronicles the engaging journey of school children as they embark on a captivating visit to an animal zoo park. The excursion was designed to offer both a delightful respite from the classroom routine and a valuable educational opportunity, allowing the students to delve into the world of exotic wildlife. The knowledge gained during this experience would serve as a crucial foundation for an upcoming school project. Central to the project's theme is the exploration of wildlife protection and conservation, particularly focusing on the dire challenges faced by wild animals due to the alarming deforestation rates that have led to the irreversible loss of their natural habitats.

A fun middle-grade contemporary fantasy with an all-BIPOC cast, about a social-media-loving tween who gets sent to an ultra-private witch camp

Hasani’s post-seventh-grade summer to-do list is pretty simple: get a bigger following for her makeup YouTube channel and figure out how to get her parents back together. What she does NOT expect is that an emotional outburst will spark a latent magical ability in her. Or that the magic will be strong enough to attract the attention of witches. Or that before she can say #BlackGirlMagic, she’ll be shipped off on a scholarship to a fancy finishing school for talented young ladies.

Les Belles Demoiselles is a literal charm school. Here, generations of young ladies from old-money witch families have learned to harness their magic, and alumnae grow to become some of the most powerful women across industries, including politicians, philanthropists, CEOs, entrepreneurs—and yes, even social media influencers. Needless to say, admission to the school is highly coveted, very exclusive...and Hasani sticks out like a weed in a rose bouquet.

While the other girls have always known they were destined to be witches, Hasani is a Wildseed—a stray witch from a family of non-witches, with no background knowledge, no way to control her magic, and a lot to catch up on. "Wildseed" may be an insult that the other girls throw at her, but Wildseeds are more powerful than they know. And Hasani will learn that there are ways to use magic and thrive that can never be taught in a classroom.

Some of the criticism towards the 2019 Little Women, is the fact that a lot of the promotion of the film included several fatphobic comments from Gerwig regarding Friedrich's character. Obviously this is not ethical or morally correct. There is a problem within Little Women research, because there are Alcott's scholars who dismiss Friedrich as a love interst for Jo because of fatphobia. Based on her diaries Louisa May Alcott seemed to have liked more stout and stacked men, and she even critices the looks of the skinny men who inspired Laurie's character.
Here´s what listeners have said about the Little Women podcast:
    Melodie
I love this podcast! The host knows more, digs deeper, and makes better connections than any other LMA/Little Women researcher I’ve seen. I would consider myself a big LMA/Little Women fan, and I’d say I know more about the two than the average person (or average fan even), but I always learn something new listening to this podcast. I’m the admin for “The Little Women Book Club” on Facebook, and our members all really love this podcast. If you’re an LMA/Little Women fan you will love it, too!
    rotten Tiger
What a beautiful podcast! It’s so insightful and entertaining. It understands the characters perfectly (especially Laurie), I love it
    Jen
As a long-time, die-hard Little Women fan, I LOVE this podcast! I stumbled upon it while doing research for a book series I was working on, and I am addicted! Niina is super knowledgeable in all things LW, from the book(s) to the movies and author Louisa May Alcott’s real life. I love that the discussions are based on the book and highlight the differences (sometimes controversial) between the original and newer adaptations. Highly recommended for anybody who loves getting lost in the world of Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy March.
