By the 20th century, warfare was nothing new to the European powers, especially when it came to fighting each other. Conflicts had been a mainstay on the European continent for over two millennia. Even after the Napoleonic wars had enveloped Europe in large scale war for nearly 20 years in the 19th century, the Europeans’ imperialism continued unabated. It would take the devastation of World War I to shock Europe and jolt the world’s superpowers out of their imperialistic tendencies.
With Europe anticipating a potential war, all that was missing was a conflagration. That would start in 1908, when Austria-Hungary annexed Bosnia-Herzegovina in the Balkan Peninsula, drawing it into dispute with Russia. Moreover, this upset neighboring Serbia, which was an independent nation. From 1912-1913, a conflict was fought in the Balkans between the Balkan League and the Ottoman Empire, resulting in the weakening of the Ottoman Turks. After the First Balkan War, a second was fought months later between members of the Balkan League itself. The final straw came June 28, 1914, when a Serbian assassinated Archduke Franz Ferdinand, the heir to the throne of Austria-Hungary, in Sarajevo, Bosnia.
The Munich Agreement is widely reviled today and is held up as the epitome of appeasement, but historians still debate its effects on the Second World War, as well as Neville Chamberlain's character and motivations. Some believe the attempted appeasement of Nazi Germany hastened, or even caused, the mayhem occupying the next seven years. Others believe that the pact merely failed to alter war's inevitable arrival in either direction.
Of course, as most people now know, the invasion of Poland was merely the preface to the Nazi blitzkrieg of most of Western Europe, which would include Denmark, Belgium, and France by the summer of 1940

A child of immigrants, Abdul El-Sayed grew up feeling a responsibility to help others. He threw himself into the study of medicine and excelled—winning a Rhodes Scholarship, earning two advanced degrees, and landing a tenure-track position at Columbia University. At age thirty, he became the youngest city health official in America, tasked with rebuilding Detroit’s health department after years of austerity policies.
But El-Sayed found himself disillusioned. He could heal the sick—even build healthier and safer communities—but that wouldn’t address the social and economic conditions causing illness in the first place. So he left health for politics, running for governor of Michigan and earning the support of progressive champions like Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Senator Bernie Sanders.
In Healing Politics, El-Sayed traces the life of a young idealist, weaving together powerful personal stories and fascinating forays into history and science. Marrying his unique perspective with the science of epidemiology, El-Sayed diagnoses an underlying epidemic afflicting our country, an epidemic of insecurity. And to heal the rifts this epidemic has created, he lays out a new direction for the progressive movement. This is a bold, personal, and compellingly original book from a prominent young leader.

How to heal the psychological wounds of an abused child? How can we restore security to a neglected child? How can we help a child and his parents create an emotional bond? How can an adopted child reconcile his or her successive lives? Confronted with parents who are unaffectionate, depressive, absent or excluded, a child can become withdrawn, panic-stricken by fear of abandonment, violent or unable to express him/herself in words or actions.
In France, over 300,000 children are under protective care. Dr. Daniel Rousseau, who has worked in a nursery run by the French child welfare agency (Aide sociale à l’enfance), uses case studies to explain how these abused children invent solutions to survive and grow up, sometimes even without their parents.

A wild ride exploring the human psyche!Authentic mystical experiences are a prerequisite to comprehend the deeper meaning of life. Entheogenic, visionary substances are a valid way to access spiritual dimensions. Sacred plants of Mother Earth can speed up the process of evolution when knowing how to use them respectfully. To learn how to commune with these natural plants and fungi can lead to the discovery of our true identity. In order to make conscious choices and to participate in the transformational process of humanity, one must experience a complete perspective shift that updates all priorities and allows access to entirely new skill sets. In this book, the author describes non-ordinary states of consciousness that can be accessed through visionary plants. Omananda transmits insights from other dimensions than we commonly experience in the 3-dimensional realm. The expansion of consciousness, which results from the conscious use of sacred medicine in a spiritual context, is not profane or an illusion. In the best-case scenario, it can be a profound catalyst for lasting change. Self Empowered Experiences in Altered States is the second part of Omananda’s Transcendental Journeys that stretch over a period of three decades.
