Sinopse

What is Monopsony

According to the principles of economics, a monopsony is a market structure in which a single buyer controls the market to a significant degree by acting as the primary purchaser of products and services that are supplied by a large number of potential suppliers. Assuming that a single entity is the lone purchaser of an item or service, the microeconomic theory of monopsony establishes that this firm possesses market power over all other sellers. This is a power that is comparable to that of a monopolist, who has the ability to influence the price for its buyers in a monopoly, which is a situation in which several buyers have only one seller of a product or service accessible to purchase something from.

What does it take to be an effective leader in today's business world?
Mike Teke, the CEO of Seriti and well-known entrepreneur, has more experience than most as a leader. His opinion is heeded and followed by many.
In The Future of Leadership is Collegiality Mike shares some of his insights on leadership and the approaches that have made him successful. Indeed, it is a book that belongs on the desks of every existing and aspiring entrepreneur, CEO and manager.
Mike believes that 'young leaders emulate and mimic experienced leaders – whether the habits they are copying are right or not so right. This happens because young leaders search for ways and means to be recognised, advance in their careers, or be seen as impressive leaders.'
He discusses concepts such as collegiality, fraternisation, ingratiation and self-respect, and illustrates his ideas with examples of South African and world leaders. On his own journey towards becoming a powerful leader, it was inculcated in him that one had to be 'tough and ruthless' in their approach to leading. However, times have moved on and the game has changed!
To be effective and deliver consistently in business, Mike has realised that collegiality is the way of the future. 'There is no need to scream at others, bang tables or use foul language!' He believes that collegiality works everywhere – as long as one is willing to lead effectively.

The incredible story of a once-venerable Swiss bank that produced a litany of financial scandals and whose collapse reveals the amorality at the heart of the global banking system.

Credit Suisse was a 166-year-old bastion of global banking. But a veneer of high-class service disguised a darker, much dirtier reality. From its sterile Zurich headquarters, Credit Suisse banked dictators and drug dealers, hid stolen Nazi gold, and helped corrupt bankers fleece the firm's own clients of billions of dollars. Its top executives oversaw a global operation that laundered money for autocrats; they hired spies to track one another through the cobbled streets of the Swiss financial capital; and they helped clients hide their money from the world's tax authorities. This is the story of a tawdry total meltdown of one of the biggest, most influential, and most scandal-ridden banks on the planet.

Duncan Mavin is uniquely sourced to tell the story of Credit Suisse's scandal-ridden demise, with dozens of inside-the-room contacts. The bank's collapse was the biggest shock to the financial system since the Financial Crisis of 2008, and sparked a media frenzy. But only Duncan has had access to key sources within the bank's executive suite—including former CEOs—and the inner circle that brings this critical, rollicking story to life.
