Sinopsis

What Is Modal Logic

Statements regarding necessity and possibility can be represented with the use of a type of logic known as modal logic. As a method for gaining a grasp of ideas like knowledge, obligation, and causality, it is an essential component of philosophy and other subjects that are closely related to it. For instance, the formula can be used to describe the statement that is known in the epistemic modal logic. Using the same formula, one can express that which is a moral responsibility within the framework of deontic modal logic. The conclusions that can be drawn from modal assertions are taken into consideration by modal logic. For instance, the majority of epistemic logics consider the formula to be a tautology, which is a representation of the concept that the only assertions that may be considered to have knowledge are those that are true.

In the summer of 2022, Lee Berger lost 50 pounds in order to wriggle though impossibly small openings in the Rising Star cave complex in South Africa—spaces where his team has been unearthing the remains of Homo naledi, a proto-human likely to have coexisted with Homo sapiens some 250,000 years ago. The lead researcher on the site, still Berger had never made his way into the dark, cramped, dangerous underground spaces where many of the naledi fossils had been found. Now he was ready to do so. Once inside the cave, Berger made shocking new discoveries that expand our understanding of this early hominid—discoveries that stand to alter our fundamental understanding of what makes us human. So what does it all mean? Join Berger on the adventure of a lifetime as he explores the Rising Star cave system and begins the complicated process of explaining these extraordinary finds—finds that force a rethinking of human evolution, and discoveries that Berger calls "the Rosetta stone of the human mind."

The dramatic story of an ingenious man who explained nature and created a country.

Benjamin Franklin was one of the preeminent scientists of his time. Driven by curiosity, he conducted cutting-edge research on electricity, heat, ocean currents, weather patterns, chemical bonds, and plants. But today, Franklin is remembered more for his political prowess and diplomatic achievements than his scientific creativity.

In this incisive and rich account of Benjamin Franklin's life and career, Richard Munson recovers this vital part of Franklin's story, reveals his modern relevance, and offers a compelling portrait of a shrewd experimenter, clever innovator, and visionary physicist whose fame opened doors to negotiate French support and funding for American independence.

Munson's riveting narrative explores how science underpins Franklin's entire story—from tradesman to inventor to nation-founder—and argues that Franklin's political life cannot be understood without giving proper credit to his scientific accomplishments.

This book is a story book about the eye. After some 60 years in eye research and clinical work in ophthalmology there have been many instances, where I remember patients and their problems, a book I read or a place that I traveled. This book has 30 chapters and the only thing they have in common, other than all having the same writer is that all have something to do with the eye or eye associated structures such as the eye muscles.None of the chapters are meant to be clinical reports; all are stories and I have tried to keep the text understandable. Some chapters have pen drawings, but for a number I could not think of appropriate illustrations and they consist of just text. All are relatively short, easily read in an evening. Some feature bugs, blister beetles, fleas and lice or other microorganisms that might affect the eye or the tissues around it. Other chapters play away from the U.S., such as Saudi-Arabia, Grenada and Komodo Island.
