This book is for three kinds of audiences: 1) curious amateurs interested in science or overall wellness, 2) anyone who has been diagnosed with cancer or knows someone who has, and 3) medical, bioengineering, or other professionals who have a general knowledge of and curiosity about any or all aspects of cancer biology and treatment, but who are not experts in the field.
This book is the result of 70+ interviews of genius-level medical and science professionals, primarily in cancer biology, research, and medicine. They have all been asked the same set of questions, and have answered to the best of their ability and knowledge.
What you’re about to read is the answers to these questions, not from all the individuals, but from the most interesting 4 to 9 who answered each question.
At the start of my journey in science, I already had a B.S. in Chemical Engineering, but that was from 1998, certainly not 2016 when I started. Reading scientific papers was difficult at first – I understood about 10% of what I was reading. As I interviewed more scientists, researchers, clinicians and others, I started to pick up the vocabulary and thinking process needed to read scientific papers.
After a year of reading, my comprehension increased, and now stands at around 70%, typically. In the areas of physics or other sciences in which I’m not conversant, I understand about 30%. In advanced math, since it’s a language unto itself, especially at high levels, I am back to the 10% level. Apply yourself, and you’ll be surprised by what you can learn in a year’s time.

Ethology - The Science of Animal...

Ethology is the scientific study of animal behavior, focusing on how species interact with their natural environments. Unlike psychology, which often examines behavior in controlled laboratory settings, ethology emphasizes the observation of animals in their natural habitats. This field seeks to understand the evolutionary significance of behaviors, uncovering how instincts, learning, and environmental influences shape the way animals survive and thrive.
The origins of ethology can be traced back to early naturalists who observed and recorded animal behaviors in the wild. However, it was not until the 20th century that ethology emerged as a distinct scientific discipline. Key figures such as Konrad Lorenz, Nikolaas Tinbergen, and Karl von Frisch laid the foundation for modern ethology. Lorenz is best known for his studies on imprinting in birds, demonstrating how young animals develop attachments to their caregivers. Tinbergen’s work established the four key questions of ethology, which explore behavior from different angles: causation, development, function, and evolution. Von Frisch, on the other hand, revolutionized our understanding of animal communication through his research on the intricate dance language of honeybees. Together, their contributions helped establish ethology as a critical field in biology.
Studying animal behavior is essential for understanding both the natural world and our own place within it. By examining how different species communicate, cooperate, compete, and reproduce, ethologists gain insights into the complex mechanisms driving life on Earth. This knowledge has practical applications in conservation, helping to protect endangered species by understanding their behavioral needs. It also plays a role in improving animal welfare, from designing better habitats in zoos to enhancing the treatment of domesticated animals.

When Robert Zubrin published his classic book The Case for Mars a quarter century ago, setting foot on the Red Planet seemed a fantasy. Today, manned exploration is certain, and as Zubrin affirms in The New World on Mars, so too is colonization.

We will settle on Mars, and with our knowledge of the planet, analyzed in depth by Dr. Zubrin, we will utilize the resources and tackle the challenges that await us. What we will we build? Populous Martian city-states producing air, water, food, power, and more. Zubrin's Martian economy will pay for necessary imports and generate income from varied enterprises, such as real estate sales—homes that are airtight and protect against cosmic space radiation, with fish-farm aquariums positioned overhead, letting in sunlight and blocking cosmic rays while providing fascinating views. Zubrin even predicts the Red Planet customs, social relations, and government that will overcome traditional forms of oppression to draw Earth immigrants.

With all of this in place, Zubrin's Red Planet will become a pressure cooker for invention, benefiting humans on Earth, Mars, and beyond. We can create this magnificent future, making life better, less fatalistic. The New World on Mars proves that there is no point killing each other over provinces and limited resources when, together, we can create planets.
