Sinopsis

In "The Collected Mysteries of Fergus Hume," the reader is invited into a labyrinthine world of crime, intrigue, and moral complexity. Hume, a pioneer of the detective genre, showcases his adeptness at intertwining suspense with richly drawn characters in a series of compelling narratives. The collection serves as both homage and commentary on the Victorian fascination with mystery and the uncanny, all while employing exquisite prose that elevates the genre beyond mere sensationalism. Hume's nuanced plots often reflect societal undercurrents, revealing how crime, class, and morality intersect in Victorian England, providing a holistic reading experience. Fergus Hume, an underrated yet significant figure in the world of crime fiction, was born in 1859 in England and later emigrated to Australia. His early exposure to the diverse societal fabric of both countries undoubtedly shaped his literary voice, steering him towards themes of injustice and the complexity of human nature. Hume's breakout success, "The Mystery of a Hansom Cab," solidified his reputation and established him as a leading storyteller during an era marked by rapid social change and urbanization, making his insights deeply relevant. "The Collected Mysteries of Fergus Hume" is not merely a compilation of tales; it is an essential exploration of the foundations of detective fiction. Readers who seek a sophisticated interplay of intrigue and eloquence will find Hume's work a perfect addition to their literary repertoire. Delve into this collection to experience a transformative journey through the realms of mystery, where every page offers a glimpse into the shadows beneath Victorian society.

Hunting season is open, and humans are the game.
In her new role with the Bureau’s Violent Crime Unit, Special Agent Amelia Storm is ready to focus on new types of crimes—ones that aren’t mob related. She didn’t, however, expect her first case to take her to rural Illinois, where the tranquil waters of Lake Henry have been guarding a grim secret.
Three corpses...and that’s just the beginning.
Among the deceased are two recent victims, a young couple last seen camping in the nearby wilderness preserve. A third, a grim echo from years past, is a set of bones picked clean and left to whisper secrets of an older, darker crime. The only connection between the victims, besides the location of their bodies, is the ancient rune carved into their skull. Shockingly, a ViCAP search of the distinctive symbol reveals eighteen sets of linked murders occurring over the past decade.
    All murdered in pairs.
As Amelia and her partner delve deeper into the case, a disturbing realization dawns—they aren’t hunting a lone serial killer but two. Working in tandem, these predators stalk their victims under the veil of darkness.
Now the interval between murders is shortening, and the killers are escalating. Amelia must turn the hunter into the hunted...before they target their next victims.
From the wickedly dark minds of Mary Stone and Amy Wilson comes Storm’s Target, book eleven of the Amelia Storm Series. But be forewarned. You may never go camping again.

A down and dirty gem of a tale—a twisty and twisted crime novel that evokes the worlds of George V. Higgins, Patricia Highsmith, and David Mamet, destined to be a neo-noir classic.

Rick and Frank are recovering addicts and accomplished house thieves. They do not steal randomly—they steal according to order, hired by a mysterious handler. The jobs run routinely until they're tasked with taking a seemingly worthless trophy: an object that generates interest and obsession out of proportion to its apparent value.

Just as the robbery is completed, the two are involved in a freak car accident that sets off a chain of events and Frank disappears with the trophy. As Rick tries to find Frank, he is forced to confront his past, upending both his livelihood and his sense of reality. The narrative builds steadily into a powerful and shocking climax. Reveling in its con-artistry and double-crosses, Just Thieves is a nail-biting, noirish exploration of the working lives of two unforgettable crooks and the hidden forces that rule and ruin their lives.

The Adventure of the Noble Bachelor, one of 56 short Sherlock Holmes stories written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, is the 10th of the 12 stories collected in The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes. The story was first published in Strand Magazine in April 1892.
Lord Robert St. Simon's new American bride, Hatty Doran, has disappeared almost immediately after the wedding. The servants had prevented an old love interest of his from forcing her way into the wedding breakfast, and Hatty had been seen in whispered conversation with her maid. Inspector Lestrade arrives with the news that Hatty's wedding dress and ring have been found floating in the Serpentine. Holmes quickly solves the mystery, locating Hatty at a hotel with a mysterious, "common looking" man who had picked up her dropped bouquet after the ceremony.
The man turns out to be Hatty's husband, Frank, whom she had thought dead in America and who managed to locate her only moments before she was to marry Lord St. Simon. Frank and Hatty had just decided to go to Lord St. Simon in order to explain the situation when Holmes found them.

    The Secret of Chimneys
A young drifter finds more than he bargained for when he agrees to deliver a parcel to an English country house. Little did Anthony Cade suspect that a simple errand on behalf of a friend would make him the centrepiece of a murderous international conspiracy. Someone would stop at nothing to prevent the monarchy being restored in faraway Herzoslovakia.
The combined forces of Scotland Yard and the French Surete can do no better than go in circles – until the final murder at Chimneys, the great country estate that yields up an amazing secret.
The Secret of Chimneys marks the first appearance of Inspector Battle and was the last book to be published by Bodley Head, thus fulfilling the terms of Agatha Christie's six book option. While Inspector Battle would only appear in a further four novels, Collins (later HarperCollins) would remain Christie's publisher for the rest of her life. Her new agent Edmund Cork of Hughes Massie had negotiated much more favourable terms with Collins (a £200 advance per title for the next three books). John Lane, then publisher at Bodley Head, had replied that if anyone wished to pay that much for Christie's novels, they were welcome to her.
A thick fog of mystery, cross purposes, and romance, which leads up to a most unexpected and highly satisfactory ending.
    Times Literary Supplement
The Secret of Chimneys was adapted by Christie as a stage play in 1931 but its planned performance was mysteriously cancelled. Its world premiere was at the Vertigo Theatre in Calgary, Canada in 2003 when the artistic director John-Paul Fischback "discovered" the manuscript deposited at The British Library over 70 years earlier. It was filmed with the addition of Julia McKenzie as Miss Marple and with multiple plot changes by ITV in 2009.
