Sinopsis

In the magic of a late nineteenth century London, murders, prostitution, intrigue, alliances, revenge and love come to life in the neighborhood of Whitechapel. A setting that brings the reader at night in the muddy streets, in the bad places, between gaming tables. A story made up of ambitious, astute and proud people willing to do anything to get their own redemption from life.Whitechapel is a mysterious and complex place, a foggy neighborhood whose alleys, at night, seem to be crossed only by the icy air of late nineteenth century London. Yet in those streets move monsters. The anguished series of brutal murders committed by the serial killer Jack the Ripper, acts as a backdrop to the bellicose and cruel events of the protagonists of the story. Everything revolves around a house of appointments and it's business. Violent and unscrupulous characters are competing for power and money between a cigar and a gambling poker establishing dark alliances and bloody feuds. Among them there's Miriam, a daring and reckless prostitute forced to reckon with the fear for the ruthless serial killer, but also and above all with the fierce array of exploitative misogynists and rogue men with whom she interacts, often emulating the methods. In this succession and overlapping of murky plots there is also space for love. A concrete, passionate, carnal love, which, however, can also allow itself rare moments of kindness, rapture and ecstasy. The language and the dialogues give strength to the rapid and pressing rhythm of the story, which captivates the reader and catapults him into a surprising and disturbing ending, so much so as that it seems almost surreal.PUBLISHER: TEKTIME

The language of Poetry is an art that most of us attempt at some point in our lives. Although its commonplace exposure has been somewhat marginalised in today’s often fast-paced lives we all recognise good verse that can empathise with our thoughts or open us up to experience new things in new ways, to better understand and to enjoy the many strands of our lives.
But finding a starting point can be overwhelming, even off-putting, so in this series we offer up our Top 10 classic poets, who brim with talent and verse, on a range of subjects and themes that we can all enjoy.
The poetess may have lived in the constancy and overbearing shadows of their male colleagues but their verse is the equal of each and every man, whoever they may be. Their words do not surrender to pity or lack of self-esteem, but are glowing tributes to the talents of humanity despite the shadows that often clouded their lives.

"Rather than love, than money, than fame, give me the truth.
    "
"If you have built castles in the air, your work need not be lost; that is where they should be."

"As if you could kill time without injuring eternity."

Walden was published in 1854 by American transcendentalist writer Henry David Thoreau. The text is a reflection upon simple living in natural surroundings. The work is part personal declaration of independence, a social experiment, a voyage of spiritual discovery, satire, and—to some degree—a manual for self-reliance.

Henry David Thoreau was an American naturalist, essayist, poet, and philosopher. A leading transcendentalist, he is best known for his book Walden, a reflection upon simple living in natural surroundings, and his essay "Civil Disobedience", an argument for disobedience to an unjust state. A true audiobook treasure!
