Sinopsis

It was no small act of heroism to which the boy made up his mind in those few moments. Those were lawless days, and human life was held very cheap. The band of fierce men who had believed they were carrying off a prince, would think nothing of running him through with their swords when they discovered how they had been tricked, and that by a mere child. Paul set his teeth hard and braced himself up for the task he had set himself. He knew his peril he realized it too; but he was a soldier's son, and had he not said he would live and die for the prince? Would he ever be worthy of the knighthood every lad looked forward to as the goal of his ambition, if he shrank now from the task he had set himself? Hardly had that resolution been taken before there sprang out from the thick underwood two or three fierce-looking men, armed to the teeth.

It's knot funny, it's fate.Former foster kid Beckett (Beck) Smith is 31 and has never had any reason to think that he’s anything other than human. But meeting Oliver (Ollie) Grayson in a club stirs something primal inside him, creating a desire that can’t be ignored. Learning that Ollie is an omega wolf shifter isn’t a deterrent, not when he can’t keep his hands off the young, vibrant, sexy man. And it’s all going great…until his body changes at the most unexpected and awkward moment. (It's really not funny, fate!)Suddenly, Beck discovers that he’s not as human as he believed. Furthermore, it turns out he’s an alpha in a world where alphas are thought to be extinct. Then there’s also the fact that he’s somehow mystically bonded to Ollie. It’s a lot to process. Don’t get him Ollie’s a great guy. He’s gorgeous and smart, and his obsession with all things Christmas is stupidly endearing, but Beck hadn’t exactly planned to commit to the guy for life. However, when Ollie’s pack threatens them, Beck will do anything to keep his mate safe…even if it means putting his own life on the line. His Alpha Unlocked is a sweet, instant attraction (fated mates) romance. It IS an mpreg, and it does contain violence, threats, kidnapping, anxiety, controlling families, and some mild angst. This book contains elements suited to readers over the age of 18.

Life was far from perfect after my mother's sudden death, but it was one I'd grown to love. And now, it's a life I'll never know again. Not after she and her two cruel sons entered our lives.

My father swore he'd never love again, but just as suddenly as Merelda arrived, she became the very center of his world . . . and just as quickly, I was all but forgotten.

Still, I did not complain . . . if only for my father's sake. Not even when cruel words turned into even crueler punishments at my new step family's hands.

It isn't until I suddenly find my father on his deathbed and myself sold off to a sadistic lord that I finally decide to take matters into my own hands.

I have to save my father, and, in order to do that, I'll have to make a deal with The Bargainer. If I fail, I'll be found, beaten, and married off to undoubtedly die at my husband's hand. If I succeed, my father will live, though at what cost to my own life I do not know.

Either way, my life as I know it is forfeit . . . but at least this way, I'll be able to choose my own fate. Or, so I thought.

    Contains mature themes.

The whimsical tale of a witch and an enchanted scarecrow come to life from the otherwise serious author Nathaniel Hawthorne (July 4, 1804 - May 19, 1864), whose themes often center on the inherent evil and sin of humanity. He is best known for The House of the seven Gables and The Scarlet Letter, a story of a proud adulteress sentenced by her stern Puritan judges to wear a scarlet A on her breast, published in 1850. His published works include a biography of his college friend Franklin Pierce, the 14th President of the United States. He died in his sleep in Plymouth, New Hampshire, and four days later he was buried in Concord’s Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, with Longfellow and Emerson among his mourners. Narrator Edward E. French is an Oscar nominee and multiple Emmy Award winner for Special Effects Makeup. Credits at IMDB.com

Frank is another dreamer whose life is suddenly burned to the ground. More a disillusioned literature PhD than an experienced financier, he had naively agreed to join his wife's inheritance with his own personal guarantee of a college friend's private equity partnership debt.

The business implosion and subsequent bankruptcy took all their assets. Francy, an orphaned European heiress, now finds herself homeless, still married to pleasant, witty Frank—who had failed to protect them from disaster.

The couple flees Manhattan to live at a desolate non-working Hudson Valley farm. Frank starts an artisanal brewery with a charismatic new eccentric friend. And, central to the heart of the story, he takes up fly fishing.

Frank's perceptions on the water are fresh and acute, sometimes colored by his memory of the words of famous writers, now painfully ironic in his life's new context.

And throughout, there is Francy's story. Now in exile, she re-approaches painting with new and darkly complex emotional energy. Her work's enigmatic intensity attracts a wealthy neighbor who offers Francy a show in his Manhattan gallery and that attracts a great deal of trouble indeed.
