Sinopsis

Optimistic Work Habits reimagines workplace success by arguing that optimism—cultivated through intentional habits—is the cornerstone of innovation, resilience, and employee well-being. Challenging outdated notions that stress and competition drive productivity, the book positions psychological safety, intrinsic motivation, and empathetic leadership as the true engines of sustainable performance. Drawing on interdisciplinary research, it reveals how environments fostering trust and creative freedom outperform rigid, metrics-driven cultures, with examples like Google’s Project Aristotle showing teams thrive when members feel safe to take risks.

The book bridges theory and practice, blending neuroscience insights (such as dopamine’s role in creativity) with real-world case studies from companies like Patagonia and Microsoft. Unlike traditional management guides, it treats optimism as a learnable skill, offering actionable rituals like gratitude journaling or “failure debriefs” that reframe setbacks as growth opportunities. Chapters progress from debunking motivation myths to providing tools for habit-building, emphasizing how small changes—such as leaders openly discussing mistakes—can spark cultural transformation.

What sets Optimistic Work Habits apart is its fusion of empirical rigor and accessible strategies, appealing to both data-driven executives and employees seeking purpose. By framing optimism as a measurable strategy rather than a vague ideal, it equips readers to align organizational goals with human needs, proving that workplaces prioritizing psychological health don’t just survive—they innovate.

When people think about unidentified flying objects (UFOs), they tend to think of flying discs piloted by gray beings with large heads and enormous eyes. They tend to think that these sightings only started relatively recently and that belief in UFOs is some sort of modern religion brought on, perhaps, by the very justifiable fears of a nuclear age. But a study of the phenomenon quickly reveals that humanity has been seeing UFOs since the beginning of recorded history and perhaps a lot longer than that.
Modern Ufology focuses on mysterious lights on Ceres or tales of alien abduction, but this wasn’t always the case, and looking at how the beliefs in the UFO phenomenon have changed or stayed the same can shed light on how culture and belief changes over time. One does not have to believe humans are actually being visited by aliens from another planet to recognize the importance of UFOs in human society. Any widespread belief that endures for centuries is worthy of study, and as always, cases exist that can’t be explained away simple superstition.
Most everyone in America is familiar with theories about UFOs, or “flying saucers” as they were often called then, but even this name dates back only to 1947. Before that time, they were called “ghost rockets” or “ghost airplanes” or “ghost airships.” Before the age of flight, the flying objects were called various things such as “flying chariots.” No matter what terminology is used, every generation has clearly had its own belief that mankind is not alone.
Even after the term flying saucer was replaced by the more scientific-sounding “unidentified flying object” (UFO), this feeling remained. It became so prevalent that almost anyone who claimed to have seen an unidentified object in the sky was reported as having observed an alien crafts.

What is a wound – and what does it reveal about our humanity? This book explores the wound not merely as physical or psychological injury, but as a rupture in relationship: a tearing apart of what was once whole. Pain is its signal – disconnection its consequence. Yet beneath every injury lies a deeper mystery. Are human beings wounded simply by virtue of being human? Is there a primordial wound that precedes all others – and if so, how might it be healed?
These questions lie at the heart of this volume, which emerged from an international conference on biographical work held in Dresden in 2015, a city profoundly marked by the devastation of war. At a time when violent conflict has returned to Europe, The Wound's themes feel urgently contemporary. Drawing on Rudolf Steiner's lectures on 'The Mystery of the Wound', Christine Gruwez explores the wound as both the consequence of destruction and the source of healing. Without a wound, there is no power to heal; without evil, no possibility of redemption.
Gruwez connects these insights to central questions of our time: vulnerability, crisis and the conditions of incarnation itself. She offers readers a key to understanding their own relationship to suffering and for approaching others inwardly and creatively. The book thus becomes a source of inspiration for counselling, biographical work and for all those seeking pathways from separation toward healing, reconciliation and transformation.
