Sadie McCarney’s Your Therapist Says It’s Magical Thinking is a buoyant second collection that playfully navigates the turbulent waters of life with mental illness and neurodivergence. In much of the book, history and science are treated the way they are often viewed by a brain in mental turmoil: places and events get switched around, facts get rewritten, and the fantastical reigns supreme. Through poems ranging from didactic (the horrible “self-care” advice received by the poet when she was struggling most) to historical fiction (patients in an asylum in 1800s England), to the quirky and unexpectedly fantastical (a rainbow carpool unicorn, a young child’s timeline reversing each morning, and an everything bagel that includes competing theories of time), McCarney digs deep into the muck of her own lived experience. She resurfaces with, if not gold, at least an old time capsule and a few treasured hunks of bone. Your Therapist Says It’s Magical Thinking highlights the sometimes dubious (but always jubilant) inner workings of a mentally unwell brain at play — especially within the context of a larger society that frequently seeks to tamp down this weird and rare form of magic.

The shade of Hugs is a collection of poetry, these are the thoughts and questions that plagued me while I tried to maneuver my grief. I wrote the words as they came; these are my journal entries, my story. They gave me comfort and a release in the moments I hardly had any. In these words, I found my path to healing, back to self. May they remind you, You are not alone.

Probably the most famous allegory ever written of the Christian life, The Pilgrim's Progress follows the journey of Christian from his first encounter with the Evangelist, through his trials and doubts and as he meets various people who help and hinder him in his journey towards the Celestial City to meet his King. Part 2 follows the journey of Christian's wife and sons as they follow him along the same path past the Slough of Despond, the Castle Despair and Vanity Fair. This version was edited in 1909 by the Rev. Jesse Lyman Hurlbut to update some of the more archaic language and streamline the theological arguments to make them more accessible to lay readers. His aim was "not to re-write the Pilgrim's Progress, for that would destroy its greatest charm, but to change the words here and there to simpler ones... to make it plain and interesting". Dramatized with voices to distinguish the main characters, we hope to make this classic accessible to people of all ages. Pearl, Jan and Linda are enjoying a long-awaited break on the Holy Island of Lindisfarne, when a surprise visitor turns up. They haven't seen Shelley for years, and their retreat becomes a reunion – and pretty soon, a riot.
But a lot has changed since they were last together and, cut off from the mainland, tensions rise with the tide. As the sky darkens, the island grows restless with echoes of the past. Will the four still be friends when dawn breaks?
Following the smash hits Ladies' Day and Ladies Down Under, Amanda Whittington's Ladies Unleashed is the third play in her Ladies Trilogy. A moving comedy about friendship, growing older and living for today, it was first performed at Hull Truck Theatre in September 2022, directed by Mark Babych.
The Ladies are back, and amateur theatre companies – as well as their audiences – are sure to delight in their riotous exploits.

'We have to keep up with the times. We're a business, not a soup kitchen, we might be busy but we're basically giving the food away for free.'
Hyltons' Caribbean takeaway is a much-loved restaurant in the heart of Liverpool. Built by Carol and her late husband into a bustling hub with a mouth-watering menu, it serves great food with a huge side-order of love.
But in a world of delivery apps, street-food markets and gourmet curry goat, the old ways are changing. Liverpool is changing too, with a luxury apartment block about to be built over a local playing field. Anger is rising, nobody can agree on anything any more, and things are getting spicy...
A feast of big laughs, family tensions and delicious food, Nathan Powell's play Takeaway premiered at Liverpool Everyman in 2025, directed by Amanda Huxtable.
